A couple of concerns raised for me:
 The media have built Archer as a world beater, but his lack of 50 over experience was clearly evident today. T20 isn't remotely the same as 50 over, Archer was either way to short or he was somewhat obsessed with his change of pace. Being brutally honest he was really poor today.
Plunkett is the middle order specialist, without him, we looked totally untreatening during overs 11-40. Plunkett has the ability to make things happen.
Lastly Rashid's shoulder issue seems worse than Morgan is letting on. Rashid was bowling too fast and flat got no turn. Whereas Moeen and Shadab got consistent turn. Dawson needs to be given ago as it will be suicidal if come the semi finals, Dawson comes in cold

England not at there best today.

Fielding was the poor point. But I thought wood bowled really well.



I’m a panicking? Nope? We didn’t really fire at beggining of the innings, we let oppo get to many duento some poor bowling/fielding and yet still nearly chased down 350!

I’d rather we have a slight lapse now when it can be overturned than have done that performance in the semis.




But honestly, we’ve smashed Pakistan in 4 Odis, they were not confident and we was playing on the flattest pitch in world cricket. Why on earth didn’t we bat first, put 400 on and just deflate Pakistan out of the game.

Not bashing  fact 71 runs off 8 and bowling poorly  in a World Cup match expect better from  a player with  90   International ODI games

Agree re Plunkett and the middle overs surprised England didn't play him along side Wood and Archer

Think England and SA should've batted 1st, after winning the toss, post 325 - 350 and won the game! Simples
Don't find any justification batting 2nd in these pitches while there's no weather issue.

There wasn't much in it.. although Pakistan lost the series before the world cup, people forget the games were a lot closer and Pakistan had some good performances.

Think Pakistan winning is a good thing for the world cup and they deserve some credit too.

Missed Plunkett and Woakes' opening spell wasn't up to his usual standards today. Then they chased like goons, both Root and Buttler getting out softly right after they got their tons was killer. Moeen bowled well today, but his batting is going backwards... At least the format of this WC lets you lose a game or two!

Maybe this game showed why we need Plunkett in the middle overs. Totally agree re root and butler @edge  if your well in with a ton one of them needs to stay in.

I can't believe both those batsmen don't think they should of finished it, this is a selfless team they just want to win.

I keep coming back to the same point thou, we concede too much... It's our weak point you wonder if the batting can cover it up over a whole tournament.

Well I think it was a good wake up call for England. I rather it comes sooner than later during knock out stages. It was a good game and the series Pakistan lost, they didn’t have Amir, shadab or Riaz. They are experienced players who used their experience toward the end. Buttler should have stayed and finished the game.

Kusal Perera freewheeling his way to 63* in quick time. SL looking good for 350+

Got a few Kolpak's around the country that could drive down. Surprised they didn't persuade AB to play one last WC - the quota thing must have really annoyed him

They would have pleaded with AB, of course they would; he just had no interest whatsoever.

Kolpaks etc is another argument altogether but they just look all over the place, particularly on the batting side

End of the South African 'golden generation' is nearly here. Smith, Kallis, Morkel, de Villiers and now Steyn. Amla the last one left, but he's been fading for along time now.
