Good to see so many understanding English fans, who I'm sure would be equally as understanding were the shoe on the other foot and situations reversed :D

Also, how does David Warner, the tournaments second top scorer and specialist opening batsman miss out on a spot in the team of the tournament to someone who averaged almost 9 runs less..

Pressure got better of New Zealand! There's no need trying running out Stokes, wrong fielder on the boundary! Result:6!

Again I disagree.  Why would you not return the ball to the keeper?  Nothing wrong with the fielder, or where he threw it.  The deflection gave the result of 6 and NZ copped a 4 run penalty for doing nothing wrong.
Quote
Never seen a fielder losing the sight of the ball played in the sun, while played totally on the ground! Cost: 1 run!
You conveniently forget Roy misfielding earlier in the over, costing a run.  Could be argued pressure got the better of him, no?

Quote
Look at the last ball run out, all the pressure of the world in Buttler, took the throw a couple of meters in front of the stumps, took the ball cleanly and result : run out, won the game and CWC 2019!
Luck Favours the Brave! And everyone wants for best good luck

In the last over Boult took 2 runouts (without gloves I might add) from red hot throws in the deep, both saving 1 run.  All the pressure in the world on them and they handled it perfectly - twice.
The point I'm trying to make is that Nz handled the pressure just as well as England, they were just as brave as England, but unfortunately for them, they were the ones screwed over by lady luck.

And as HellomynameisJ alluded to, imagine if the throw to Buttler was deflected off Guptil's bat for four.  Would that mean Roy and Buttler couldn't handle pressure?  Of course not.  Handling pressure is no deterrent to bad luck.

Pretty sure if the team of the tournament was just decided by averages they'd not bother and just publish the runs and wickets tables!

Perhaps they just did a boundary countback, or maybe Jason Roy's mum picked the team?

Warner made three tons, all against sides that failed to make it through to the knock out stages (as was his next highest score as well).  As always, stats need to be placed in their true context

You're beginning to sound as boring as senior player when he talks about woakes.

Also.... Pretty sure every 'understanding English fan' has said it was unlucky....what more did you want? Shall we all parade through the streets self flagellating because we won with a bit of luck? 🙄🙄

That comment was intended to be tongue in cheek haha, but I appreciate the internet doesn't convey these things well. I think Roy is a serious one day cricketer!

I appreciate the point that you're making and I would agree that stats don't tell the whole story, in the same breath Jason Roys only ton also came against a side who didn't make the finals, but Roy and Warner had such different tournaments that it's hard to compare. I look at Rohit Sharma as a reference, he made 1 more run than warner, the difference obviously being Rohit made 5 hundreds, which is why I assume that he was selected ahead of Warner (and rightly so), which is why it's a bit confusing that Roy has made it ahead of DW.

This was more directed at those pointing out the "salty" people on social media and other disappointed fans, I feel confident in saying that the backlash in regards to the supposed umpiring errors and questionable super over rules would have been much worse if the situation was reversed. Either way, heck of a world cup, and I think we can all agree that it would have been better for both teams if the result had been decided by the bat or ball and not a rule that 9 out of 10 people wouldn't even know existed.

but it was decided by bat, England "batted it" further more times than NZ

Just going through a few pieces and even Williamson himself wasn't too aware of the rules regarding overthrows and wilful release of the ball etc

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12249798

I mean, who honestly did? I certainly didn't; I saw a post elsewhere that says that if it genuinely is the point of throw then 90% of overthrows in the history of the game have been called wrong. Think that sums it up quite well.

That ball (nice juicy full Toss that stokes would have put in the stands 8 out of 10 times) was destined for 6... just like England were destined to win.
But now the ICC needs to change two rules:
1. Make it a dead ball once a throw hits a batsman
2. Get rid of this asinine boundary countback law - just keep bowling super overs till a team loses. It’s a farcical rule that has taken the shine off an amazing final.

"How is a boundary four and three dots worth more than four singles? Not just that, this tiebreaker after a tiebreaker doesn't even differentiate between a boundary four and a boundary six. If your side hit 20 fours and no sixes, scoring 80 runs in boundaries, you are better off than a side that scored 84 boundary runs in 15 fours and four sixes. "

I agree that it isn't the best way of deciding a final, but that was a dreadful article - all three ways he suggested were worse!

Most boundaries is a terrible tie breaker but wickets lost is not much better.

Just have another super over but both teams have to use different batsmen and bowlers, like a penalty shootout requires teams to cycle through their penalty takers. I'd love to see Jos Buttler chucking down some pies in an effort to defend 9 runs off the 10th or 11th super over.
