He's been tried, tested and found out.
He then went away and got runs in the Championship, only to be found out again!

He clearly backs himself as he's gone on record to say he won't change his technique as it's scored him a lot of runs. However he's been exposed at the top level. Unless he's made changes to overcome this he shouldn't get another go.

spot on, he clearly has a strong belief in his ability and you need that at the highest level. It will only take you so far as he has found out thou.

in my view thou, he was the ideal style to slot into our test team...in that I mean the style he plays around the other batsmen. A very very good player just found out at the highest level.

interestingly over the years there has not been many players who have changed their technique to a dramatic effect, mostly its just small adjustments.

the one that stands out to me is Gooch....he failed initially at test level and then worked out a game plan to play the quickest bowlers-which was a very high backlift. In those days his technique was not that common(bat up very high) He also used a very heavy bat. in the latter part of his career(post changes) he became arguably one of the best players we have ever had.

Great to see Hameed reawakening from his troubles. Rather incredibly his first 1st class hundred since 2016 and some 66 innings.

Hameed ought to get a couple of seasons of heavy run scoring behind him before he gets near the Test squad again. Not too long ago, that would go without saying.

Good to see Hameed scoring proper runs again, definitely agree he needs more than just a few innings before they think about selecting him for tests again though.

Don't really get the aggro currently over Ballance, he hasn't really had a proper second go at tests yet, just the odd game, and he's the best batsman in county cricket by a huge margin. Do understand the technique concerns at higher level, but he has definitely tightened up pre-delivery from his low point in tests, looks better every year judging by the county footage! Plus county attacks have an increasing test presence these days, Abbott and Fidel is a proper opening pair. Not saying definitely select him, but if he scores enough runs to earn it I don't see the problem. Hard to see that Denly is a better player than Ballance!

Edwards was hardly a world beater for the Windies. Abbott granted is top bowler but he's barely above 83mph and that's where Ballance is in his comfort zone.

Over the last 5 years or so, who's better? Balkance's first class performances have been phenomenal.
