You cant pick a Test team purely on CC stats, for either batsmen or bowlers

The reason is that the Championship isnt a like for like reflection of Test cricket. Pitches, weather conditions, match balls and quality of opposition are all factors that should be considered.

I dont care what Ballance averages this season in county cricket. Hes had more than a fair crack at the top level and was found wanting. Plenty of young bats doing well in the opening couple of rounds, get them in. After watching the likes of Ballance and Jennings in recent times it beggars belief that Hildreth has never had a go!

Good to see Clarke and Hameed in the runs. Plenty of first class matches before the Ashes for them to make a proper case.

Sibley now has 5 tons in five games.
Seems the move from Ashtead to Warwickshire is paying off. Also he is still very young.

Absolutely crazy game at Sofia Gardens!

Not sure when the last time we scored 600! And we hardly have a lead. Must be like the M4 in Cardiff... are we sure it's April?

Couldn’t agree more with this, read something the other day where he was preaching like it was gospel. Looking forward to seeing him as a pundit on sky over this season seen as he is the authority on all things cricket.

Next head of the ICC?

You clearly haven't been following my opinions very closely.  :D

Some helmet-based funny business going on here with Will Jacks, either this is an unreleased model (seems unlikely) or Cook isn't the only one who gets special helmets! Also note he's got his grip on upside down, tsk.

In more cricket-based news, seems Sibley and Ballance remain in good nick.

But if they get picked you'll moan about England mismanaging them.

Ballance hasn't changed anything that caused him to be dropped, he won't score a run against the Aussies,

Coad will be closer but won't get into our final xi yet

If he has another year like the past couple then he may get a chance

I wasn't seriously suggesting that either should be picked - just celebrating a great Yorkshire performance.  Ballance has not resolved his earlier issues and, whilst I think it is daft that James Vince is in the same boat yet getting serious consideration, that fact is that hanging back in his crease the way he does would be cannon fodder to bowlers nibbling the ball at 90mph.  Coad, great bowler that he is, falls foul of the same brutal logic that meant Chris Rushworth was never considered for a test debut despite basically winning Championships single handed.

On Sibley, it took him a while to step up to first class cricket (debut 200 aside!)
My suspicion is that picking him against the Aussies and then away to SA would be a brutal introduction to test cricket and would set him back significantly.

Ballance I suspect will be picked, rightly or wrongly. (I wouldn't pick him)
