Or Denly with an unbeaten 100 against the bottom of the table with 0 wins depending on how you look at it.

That's true but it's our batting that has failed this season not our bowling

I'm not sure he will - when Root became Test captain I figured the "pick your mates" ethic might have stood in his favour but he then got to the stage on the last Ashes tour where Bayliss openly stated that he would have played Foakes as a specialist batsman ahead of Ballance.  Whilst there are definitely places up for grabs in the top three (personally I would say Burns is the only nailed on starter again Ireland) I would say that there are quite a few still in front of Gazza.

I would take Foakes over Ballance any day.

For me right now the 15 test team members would be Burns, Roy, Foakes, Root, Buttler, Stokes, Baristow, Ali, Woakes, Rashid, Anderson, Archer, Broad, pick a young batsman and bowler

The starting eleven would be the order listed unless Baristow gives up the gloves and swaps place with Foakes, which would me my preference.  The other spot that might be iffy is Ali/Rashid combo.  Do you play extra seamer in Broad/Archer and have Root bowl as 2nd spinner if needed.  I rather have both Ali and Rashid with Stokes being the 3rd seamer, but England will go with extra seamer and drop one of Ali/Rashid.  Since, it’s Root as captain Rashid will be the one to lose the spot.

Canterbury wicket must have been replaced with concrete just shy of 1000 runs now with just 10 wickets over 3 days. Sibley doing his Ashes chances no harm with a double hundred must be the most inform batsmen in the country at the moment.

What is the standard of cricket in division 2? Labushchagne playing like he's become Donald Bradman. Only had 4 first class hundreds in his entire career prior to joining Glamorgan, he's about to score his 5th century of the season

Kent and Warwickshire are Div1 - div 2 is still fairly decent looking at some of the players in there, can’t say I get to see much live county cricket these days but I still believe it’s one of the highest levels in world cricket below international level.

I think mixed would be the best and fairest way to describe it.

I would say division one right now is up there with anything in the world game - just as test cricket sides are different around the world, there will be differences with say the Sheffield Shield teams in that there is not as much top line pace in the English game, but the overall standard is very decent indeed.  I was about to start by saying something slightly disrespectful of Division Two, but then thought better of it - there are certainly some teams in there who treat First Class cricket as the thing they do to stay warm whilst waiting for the T20s (Leicestershire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Durham I'm looking at you) and there is also a bit of a move toward D2 counties being places for D1 counties to give their lads some game time (Jamie Overton having a run out for Northants, for example) which puts some counties strength in context - for example, Gloucs taking Josh Shaw from Yorkshire to take the new ball when he is, at best, eleventh in the pecking order at Headingley - but...

Play Lancashire, you're up against Anderson, Onions, Mahmood, Gleeson, Parkinson.  That's not a bad attack.  Middlesex are toward the bottom of the table but can field recent test players in Malan, Finn, Roland-Jones, Robson, Murtagh and Stirling as well as possible future ones in Gubbins, Holden and Helm.  Sussex bring an array of talent from around the world too.  And Glamorgan were, until yesterday, top of the table...

but the biggest headline from yesterday would have to be the Yorkshire victory over Surrey at Scarbados :)

Spent the first 3 days in Scarborough, was rather relieved I was in Durham for the fourth. Batting order is all over the place and it's quite clear there's an air of arrogance/complacency

Hope you enjoyed it, apart from the result! It's the best experience in the domestic game.

To be fair, whilst both sides have the same level of absentees, I think you perhaps missed yours more, particularly as they affected your middle order.

Argh

Well bowled.

Hurumph!

We shouldn't have lost that game.
Amazing crowds though. Scarbados must be the best attended county ground. Forget just out grounds!

I would defy anyone to go there and claim the county game is dead.  The atmosphere is incredible, at least until the beer makes it more patchy late on, and the venue is perfect. Indeed, I would say its better attended than 9/10 of test matches!

A 50* for Dom Sibley off 139 balls.

If there wasn’t already enough evidence but surely Kent have to give him another contract now!
