B3 Monster Twins
« on: December 13, 2018, 12:09:53 PM »

So, as an early Christmas present, i got given money towards a new stick. Having never tried a B3 but loved their process and ideas I got in touch with Rich and started the ball rolling. I agreed to go up yesterday and have a look and play with some bats. Upon arrival, rich was there, took me through to the store room and we started chatting anything and everything cricket.

Eventually after an hour and a half of cricket chat and discussing shapes, I decided I'd like a replica of the Joe Root shape (slightly different from the root based shape b3 usually sell) rich said I'd need to have a crown to get that shape anywhere near a useable weight, so through to the factory we went in search of a crown.

There were 3 crowns available, all of which were stunning. I had my heart set on 1. Rich then got talking about what low density wood actually meant, and essentially it means there is more air in the wood and less structure. This means that low density wood as a general rule has less life expectancy. With this in mind, I started thinking about a net bat to go with the crown (my bank balance wouldn't have thanked me). rich took me round the other side of the rack and I spied 2 clefts that were circa 350 density (the density required) and were a 2 stripe and a 1 stripe. So I decided to get both. Rich said the 2 stripe could have been a crown but for the presence of a slight wonk to the grains and a couple of small blemishes. The 1 stripe is very ugly, no doubt, but as a net bat I cant complain.

Overall I'm very pleased with the two clefts and very happy with the whole process. Rich was brilliant and the setup is class. I now cant wait to get the bats.

Ooh two Root crowns on the forum in the coming days
... you and @Canners will have to have compare notes on your big wood

Wish I had visited the factory much sooner and definitely the best bit of getting my B3

Did you always have the Root in mind @LEACHY48 or did you try a few that take your fancy and this come out on top. Always love to hear people’s thoughts on different shapes. As I’ve said before the Root is the best balanced I felt there

I actually had my eyes on an old school TKC shape and then kept trying different bats and the original root as you say felt amazing. Had great coverage, was big and light and just felt right in the hands. I was a bit tempted by a Trott bat but handle felt rubbish

The original that I felt picked up incredibly. Felt like a wand. As I said I didn't get to feel yours but I imagine it felt as good if not better due to having a little more in the shoulders

I though the pakistani players bat picked up very well. Shan masood?

I got the Trott profile and im really happy with it, particularly the handle despite leachys comments when he had a look at it.

The shan masood does pick up very nicely. Not a massive fan of the shape and toe but generally it's a decent stick.

I'm fussy with my handles, the trott just wasnt for me. Was it yours I felt at the CBF game in Kilve?

I really liked that, wasn't a fan of how the handle fitting looked but loved the feel etc. shame the ones in the show room weren't quite like yours.

Yours felt amazing Dave. The one in the showroom was an instant no for me but yours I could very happily live with nudge nudge wink wink  think yours is slightly more rounded and less pointy. Yours is honestly one of the nicest bats I’ve ever felt and right up my street

Canners has my old Shan 3LE so will be able to give a comparison

I can give you the number, density and stuff, i had forward set handle etc. Maybe we can do a swap in a field during the season. Currently im not using it and if you are that keen im sure we could have a chat. Probably only used a couple of times since that game last year.
