And guess what out of about 15 of the ca bats i have seen in use there is a 100% occurance of delaminated edges and toe very very early in their life. Sometimes even while knocking in. Dont get me wrong they have all performed fantastic. But the durability of Ca bats is questionable at best.
A few comments:
- My league has lot of senior players who've been playing cricket for a long time. The oldest bats I see are the CAs and GNs. These bats are very well taken care of and their color has changed over time due to oiling.

It is always nice to see those old bats with their old stickers.
- I have a M&H Amplus that I am told was made by Tim Keeley. That bat out of the box was pinging like a trampoline. M&H had knocked and boned the bat for me. That bat delaminated very quickly.
- My main CA, an SM autographed bat, lasted me 4 or 5 seasons, scored lot of runs and hit massive sixes . It is still good to go. It is delaminated and sounds funny but has some life in it. When knocking this bat, I was very hard on it with my mallet.
- My current match bat is a Keeley and it was machine knocked after my mallet job didn't help. It was a slow bloomer.

Now that it is is all "grown-ed" up and kicking ass, I am noticing some delamination. In terms of hit range, this is by far the best I have used and it is delaminating after 1 full season.
- Old Kippax with dragon stickers delaminated as well even though it pings beautifully. My mallet job on that bat was pretty severe as well. This bat is the oldest I have and I didn't know to properly knock/prepare a bat.
- Another bat whose brand name rhymes with "performance free" is delaminating. This is the bat I designed, a 385 density cleft was used, and it was graded G1. This bat is so bad that no amount of knocking woke him up. I relegated it to "nets-only" status because it can absorb shocks from cheap balls at 18 yards.
All these bats were made by different bat makers and prepared/knocked with varying level of intensity. They delaminated. The only common factor is the quality of balls we use in our league (that factor has not changed) and , perhaps, the hardness of knocking. There is not much I can do about the balls but I have considerably changed my knocking, much gentler now.
