That's the point really isn't it. The commitment on a Sunday to either Cup competition has to be there from the start from all the players because playing both days all season (or every other at least) is a big ask these days for a lot of people and if you put a weak side out in these cups you will most likely get beaten.

Big clubs pay remember.. so turning up is mandatory

Add that to the bigger clubs will have a few others trying to make a name etc. Its a big ask for a normal club but then I wouldn’t expect a normal club to enter the main comp and certainly not both. Village cup potentially if you qualify as turning up with a full 1xi gives you a sniff of getting far

Was mainly talking about the Village Cup.

Completely realise that the National Club Cup is mandatory to be available for at a lot of clubs - i have been there and played in those games!

Village cup has some big teams in too. No idea if they actually take it seriously or not but they will be floating about

think if you're a village and a high level club, you can enter your 2nd/3rd team - aston rowant might do this as their seconds/thirds will be in the Cherwell League? divisions, i think Frocester in the WEPL do this, the 1st team play in the National Club comp and the 2nds/3rds players in the village - i may be very wrong about this!!!

Great effort! One game from Lords  :)

As mentioned above - the standard or league a club plays in has no bearing on eligibility for the village cup

We entered for a 2nd year, had a good day out last year with an away day at Streethouses but lost (we expected to but put up a good fight)

This year got a home draw against a Bradford league side, albeit 4 division so we fancy our chances, was hoping for another away day but hopefully if we win we may draw an away fixture.

Always a good way to start the season, no pressure as we never quite sure what to expect from opposition

Clubs in an ECB premier division can enter the village cup but players who have played premier division games in the current or  previous season can't play in it.

This changed a couple of years ago along with the definition of a 'village' to open it up to more clubs.
It's a great comp if you can play in it.

PLayed our first round match yesterday and we won. Didnt contribute myself getting out LBW for 0 but the team bounced back really well from 38-3 posting a total of 215 on a damp low bouncing track.

on to the next round where we face one of the big boys!

The joys of being in West Sussex mean the first game isn't for a week or so yet (only 4 teams in region) but looking forward to this year

Through to 3rd round after beating Steethouse at weekend. Defended 120 bowling them out for 74 one bloke scoring 59 for them. Even got a write up in the magazine online after they rang me yesterday. Bad day for me though missed a straight one first ball of game, terrible start to season personally dont even know which end to hold
