And are these bats actually illegal for match play? How could the umpire test it? A laminate gauge?
Yes they are and even harder to spot covered in stickers as for umpires  they are usually clueless always remember I once said to one he's using an illegal laminate bat he responded with what's that.

@Parv I can get you a performance laminate if your still looking.

Are you still able to source one of these, put it off last season in the end, but keen to get one now? Ive heard after the new regs potentially harder to find

As I understand the new laws, laminates are legal for junior players playing in junior games (defined I believe as Type D bats) but whether that will mean this type of bat coming back to the market I don't know
