Mankad Video - out or not out?
« on: May 06, 2019, 04:55:42 PM »

Apologies struggling to make the link start in the right place but see ball 4.1 (-1:04:00 in the video) of the second innings the Ealing CC bowler mankads the Uxbridge CC batsman and runs off celebrating. The umpire gives it out with the captain saying he upholds his appeal before one of the Ealing players has a word with the skipper - out or not out?

Technically as I interpret the laws it is out.
Quite naf though.

Also the ball before the batter ran down the pitch!

Strictly speaking it's out but thankfully common sense prevailed and the batsman remained.

My interpretation would be that it's a dead ball, as he has broken the wickets during his delivery action however hasn't released the ball (Stephen finn law). Had he released the ball it would have been a no ball, it certainly doesn't look like a deliberate mankad attempt

It was definitely deliberate.  Personally seems like he’s in his delivery stride so can’t be out?

Law changed last year so that delivery stride no longer matters. It didn't look deliberate to me, looked like he got too close to the stumps, broke the wickets and so held the ball, then looked at the batsman realised he was out and celebrated

It was deliberate. He told the batsman he had been practicing it!

Absolutely deliberate to my eyes

It's out. Don't get it, why would it not be out?

I wrongly thought if he was in delivery stride it couldn’t be out. Anyway personally I am with the people who go on about spirit of cricket... given that he is clearly a decent player who has played first class he probably could have got the wicket anyway... but equally don’t want to get everyone started on spirit of cricket debate again!!

Under the laws I would say this is out but the right outcome was reached in the end.  Sadly this is the sort of imbecilic behaviour that the Ashwin incident in thr IPL has encouraged

Either way its just poor in my opinion, watched a few minutes before this and cant see him stealing yards but camera angle may not be best for that, either way its poor in my opinion

Bowler hasn't released the ball and the non-striker has stopped watching and started walking down the pitch.

Talk of imbecilic, poor, common sense etc. holds no water with me.

Stay behind the line until the ball has been released and then you don't have to resort to crying about the spirit of cricket because you were being a dozy git.

This is schoolboy stuff.
