Australia currently playing against themselves and likely Test starters Warner, Harris, Head and Patterson all got out to English type seamers like Bird and Neser.

If there’s a fraction of movement Australia will struggle to score 200 in an innings. Despite England’s mishmash top 3, we’ll still hammer Australia

England team named.  Gregory and Anderson miss out, Roy and Stone debut and Leach plays!

I still fail to see how England are going to fare any better? They have just as many question marks. Who's to say 200 won't be enough?

Both teams have good bowling lineups, I would say Australia probably have more depth in the reserves and the huge advantage of a world class spinner. Whereas England have the advantage of Ben Stokes as an all-round option.

Batting wise it's anyone's guess, but Australia on paper have a more experienced top order whereas englands middle order is stronger, but from what I've seen Australias tail is seemingly more competent than englands. Honestly I could go back and forth all day, but the reality is that it's unlikely to be as simple as one team "hammering" another.

I hope you're right but I can't agree. The Aussies still have some class in their batting, so they'll not all fail and a few could prove themselves. Don't forget they've still got Smith too!

Our batting has been suspect to say the least in recent times, so we could easily have a few collapses.

Bowling wise I'd make us pretty even tbh, so it's anyone's series for me.

I reckon it could be a rerun of the last series over here, and indeed the recent South Africa series, with five results and no real close games.

This.. both sides are inconsistent and average. It’ll just be 5 one sided games and almost just dumb luck which way it goes.

Either the Aussies can't bat, or they have insanely good bowlers... or both?

What pitches are expected for the ashes?

I’d imagine the groundsmen across the country are being told to flood the squares to avoid any chance of reverse swing

Imagine performing like Gregory has all year for Somerset, only to be overlooked by a guy who's barely played all season or taken any wickets. Only England could justify that selection

By that standard, Gregory has much less grounds for complaint than Jamie Porter, Ben Coad, Bunny Onions and Chris Rushworth over the last few years...

Correct yes, the list could go on of names who deserve a crack ahead of Stone in my opinion

though the counter argument would be that Stone has a great average and crucially strike rate in first class cricket, and gets it down at 90mph...

After seeing some of the highlights of the Aussie vs Aussie match it’s quite clear they’ve got plenty of high class bowlers. Obviously Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Pattinson are top tier. But the likes of Neser, Bird and Siddle can clearly cause mayhem with a duke ball.

Their batting looks woeful. Steven Smith will find away to score runs as he’s the best test batsman of his generation. The rest are more hitters and will be easy meat.

Even in Anderson isn’t around for Birmingham, I still can’t see Australia getting close.

England 3-0, two tests could be affected by rain with this incredible heat likely to cause thunderstorms.
