Test cricket is a great leveler! Good for Ireland and Tim Murtagh!
Is it? I’d say it was the format where the best team won most often.

Looks like one of Starc or Hazlewood will miss out in place of Pattinson, Pattinson has been rapid in the warm up event the Aussies are playing

Was there any speed gun on it, watched the highlights he did look rapid. Is there a max number of players they can name in an ashes squad if not why not just slide him in there. If youre playing at Lords and its the same as the Ireland game they should be looking to get John Hastings over too. Nothing like a bit of right arm dibbly dobbly

No official speed gun but the reporters at Southampton said he was clearly quicker than Cummins, which is no mean feat.

I was under the impression that a touring party is usually 16 men but nothing stopping Australia having 17 or 18 if they really wanted to.

Hastings has retired from all forms due to health reasons, mainly the fact that he would cough up blood after bowling, and I don't think anyone ever figured out why.

I can't see Starc being left out in any case and truth be told Hazelwoods form wasn't fantastic before his injury and subsequent layoff, it sounds like the time off hasn't improved much. Pattinson is a far better Allround cricketer who's back issues have presented Hazelwood a career, now that he is fit, Hazelwood should rightly return back down the pecking order.

I seem to remember another spinner who became a gun batsman. KP 2.0. Leach set himself for a lovely ashes season as #1 bat

Burns is actually worst than Jennings

What worries me with Burns is that his technique is exposed to both the ball coming into him and the ball leaving him.  When it comes back in, his feet are planted on off stump and his head is falling away to point.  When it is moving away from his feet stay planted and he can't get his head over the ball.

He scored a lot of runs in the CC at a time when England were struggling for openers without being given  a call up and those questions over his poor technique look to be justified so far.

Neither of the England openers look fit to be Leaches nightwatchman at this stage. Burns looks like a bad parody of a batsman and Jason Roy doesn't look to have the mental faculties nor the technical proficiency required for test cricket.

If that's the case then he should be brought in to coach the rest of the batting order. Leach is batting exactly as an opener should, few risks and put away the bad ball.
