So Burns, Hain, Sibley and Roy all get an Ashes gig before Bairstow??!

Watching Bairstow over the past few years is a very similar experience to watching Vince and Jennings over the same period. You watch someone repeatedly get out the same way and not adapting. How many times has he got to keep getting bowled through the gate before he works on how he drives the ball in Test matches?

Bairstow's bottom hand heavy technique works in ODI's but it blatantly isn't working in Tests. He's averaging just 30 in Test's since moving up to open in ODI's and doesn't seem settled anywhere. He's batted 3,4,5,6,7 and 8, he's had the gloves, not had them, then been keeper again. Unless the ECB hire someone to stand outside Bairstow's door giving him abuse, I just don't see how he can be allowed to continue failing with such confidence and ego?

It has to be time for Bairstow to hand the gloves over to Foakes now, surely?

If this was James Vince you'd all be calling for his head, yet somehow YJB seems to be immune from criticism!

A reminder that Foakes was dropped cause Bairstow kicked his toys out of the pram

Bairstow in driving hard with hands away from the body and getting bowled/lbw shocker. But he'll carry on getting picked because he's Yorkshire and Root isn't a strong enough character to tell him to go away to sort out his attitude and test technique.

Appreciate what you're saying and I agree there's s technical flaw there to work on. However I think he's got enough credit in the bank to play before we throw 2 debutants and 2 almost debutants into our top 6 for the 1st Ashes test.

Also, the fact he has batted in every position, had the gloves, not had the gloves etc can't have helped him imo

The pair in this test isn't ideal though granted!  :(

Bairstow is a proven flop in test cricket. 2016 was a total fluke by Bairstow. His true ability is what he showed in the rest of his career

Foakes is mighty unfortunate not to be permanent after the Sri Lanka tour

How do you fluke your way to 1470 runs in a year at an avg of 58??! You may not rate him but come on....

Who's worse at Reviewing Johnny or Shane Watson?

Also WHERE IS FOAKES!! i still don't get how he isn't the second (behind the skipper) name on the team sheet, and I've said this for a while.

Johnny will get a barracking in the media, score a hundred yell in "celebration" and then fail again....

Moeen fails once again. Root, Woakes and Curran need to somehow manufacture another 80-100 runs
