Did you watch them play at all? Atherton a solid test opener and Thorpe a tough middle order player but the rest were average test players at best.
That's a interesting debate. I would take Atherton and Butcher over Burns and Roy any day of the week. Thorpe was one of England's most underrated players ever and Stewart strolls into this team ahead of Bairstow. Out of the bowlers I think only Gough plays.

So anyway.....

To our Aussie friends? After Bancroft made a superb 93not out in what’s seems the only test style inning win a while.

Do we reckon he’s gonna be re u tied with his best buddy Warner to open in the ashes??

I don't think that game the Aussies played has told them anything they didn't already know if they were truthful about it.

Pattinson is class and rapid was always going to make the squad if fit.

The batsmen struggle to play a moving ball, nothing new there really. The disappointment would have come from none of the current guys holding the spots getting runs eg. Head, Patterson, Burns and Harris.
With good old Mitch Marsh having a good game also may through the cat amongst the pigeons as well.
The Khawaja injury makes selection more interesting. Does anyone know if he is going to be fit?

Can't see it, I think they will stick with Harris. Wade I am hearing might get another crack.

I think he is the best option, Burns is a flat track hero and Harris just hasn't made that spot his.

It will be interesting to see which way the selectors go, I've not heard anything on the Khawaja front but in my opinion Labuschagne has got the runs on the board for that #3 spot, you can't really argue with his work in County Championship thus far and he can bowl handy leggies. I'm not sure Marsh will get a go after one good showing, maybe if there looks to be a really flat wicket, otherwise I think they will go with Wade, who can also throw down some part time overs. And Pattinson ahead of Hazelwood who has been thoroughly unimpressive in the A tour.

Yes I certainly did. Thorpe is one of my batting heroes. I can't believe I didn't include Gooch and Robin Smith either. I'd swap most of that side for the current one though.

So Leach and Root should open in Birmingham  ;)

#RecallKP

Remember when our top 6 all averaged like 40 and the main concern was an out of form Ian Bell? I miss those days...

Bell batted behind a solid top 4 so had freedom to play his way

He was class, twenty tons don’t come without being quality

I’d argue we actually miss Trott the most thou. Against most attacks he protected those after him

Yes found out by exceptional pace in the end

But a damn good number 3

If Woakes and Broad wanted conditions to bowl in then they have them - once this rain goes it's set to be overcast and humid all day.
