Has Broad just bowled himself into the side for the first Ashes test?

England bowled superbly but we know we have a fantastic bowling line up and very good bowlers in reserve as well. Batting however looked shocking in this match. I guess there could be an argument that these batters don’t face 75mph old style swing bowling a lot or have not played red ball for a while but the lack of aptitude was shocking.

What did we learn from this 2 days and a session? Well nothing really

For 2 days and 1 ball of that Ireland were favourites!

I actually think it's a shame that conditions were like that today because too be honest Ireland didn't stand much of a chance, we would have (and have before) bowled out much much better sides when conditions are like that.

I would have liked us to be tested in the field, Ireland get close to the 182 etc... and then the batters get really shown up for what they have been like this match.

They did what they needed to do this morning, conditions obviously favouring but we used them well. However we all knew where our frailties were prior to this test and these have only been confirmed in the last few days. We need to find two openers asap, which makes me wonder why we didn't bat Roy lower down and give Sibley or a n other a try up top in this test.

In fairness both sides in the Ashes are bowler heavy, with batting line ups which both have cracks. Could be an interesting series with whoever's big players stand up to be counted coming out on top.

I just imagine it's going to be low scores all over the shop, a summer for both bowling sides

root talking nonsense, nowt wrong with that pitch, wasn't up and down, didn't turn too much.

We batted awfully and i hope he gets a lot of flack for that comment!!

positives to take:

we know who our best spinner is - leach (although he wont play)
Roy got a score and i think he'll turn out to be a good pick
stokes, buttler and anderson to come back in
Olly Stone bowled well
We exploited conditions perfectly this morning
Root remembered how to catch
Curran looks a seriously good batsmen

Negatives:

burns is horribly out of form
denly may be dropped but root is at fault
ballance/vince may get a recall
root cant bat and captain
moeen is atrocious
bairstow seems to want to blast everything - hes much better when he times it
Foakes should be playing buy cry baby bairstow will be picked
Curran looks a seriously good batsmen - wont get into our batting line up needs to get up the order at Surrey

Root says he doesnt have concerns about the batting and it was the pitch... is he blind, blinkered or just daft

Could an argument be made for Stokes batting at 3?

He looked the part in the world cup and is good technically

Moeen simply cannot play ahead of leach but he will

Is that the same Moeen that has 45 wickets at 23 in his last 9 tests?

I would say all 3 right now; pitch was absolutely fine, if a nightwatchman with a FC average of 4 can score 92 then your best players should be more than capable of batting properly...

Thoroughly entertaining game to watch.   Not a great surface by test match standards but it makes for a great game to watch when the ball is moving about

Not sure many of the selection decisions ahead of next week have been resolved as a result of that though.  Fitness permitting and without having seen the pitch, I would go in with:

1. Roy
2. Denly
3. Stokes
4. Root
5. Baistow
6. Butler
7. Ali
8. Woakes
9. Archer
10. Broad
11. Anderson

His 3-0-26-0 vs Mo’s 4.2-1-14-1 convinced you of that?

Leach has proved he is the best spinner by bowling 3 overs for 26 without taking a wicket?

Hey everyone else talks out of their ass and so can I...

I genuinely do think leach is the better spinner and needs a run in the side
