Suffice to say even when the job is to see two overs out that Roy will take them on.

I guess we have a game on

Dissapointing to see Aus get to nearly 300 from when they were 130odd-8 but I think most people would have taken it at the start of the day and England none down is a bonus.

Crowd was incredibly hostile today but Smith is just different gravy

I cant stand Steve Smith even before the whole sandpaper business but even more now, along with those other two cheating idiots. However Smith is a class act with bat in hand, I haven’t seen any of todays game yet but after a great start and getting Australia in a lot of bother they have mustered an ok 1st innings score held together by a class bat.

Now our batters need to give our bowlers and Jimmy a couple of days rest and muster a 500+ score

I bet Anderson told England management he was fit to play. P*ss poor decisions all round.

Have faith though, I fancy our batting if we get through the first 10 tomorrow- Roy might be a wrecking ball!!

Anderson was regularly bowling prior to and during the Ireland test over a week ago now.

So the worlds best (Bradman) and second best (smith) Test batsmen in history both used very unorthodox technique- time to burn the official coaching manual for good?

Unfortunately for Jimmy, I don't think a couple of days, let alone a couple of weeks would make a difference if he has strained another calf. I wouldn't be surprised if he called it a day at the end of this test match.

I really hope not. He doesn’t do much media interviews but always thought he had a lot of hunger to continue but I guess injuries at his age now (same age as me) is a big ask for the body. Let’s just say if he can’t no longer take any part in this series than it’s just got even closer. Got to see how this Australian attack goes today. No starc or Hazelwood could be a great result for us although Cummins is a class bowler as well as Lyon

It's certainly not the way you want to see a modern great leave the game but the body is only capable of so much for so long and hunger aside I'm not sure he would be in the best side going past this series with the emergence of Archer and improvement of woakes.

Siddle is much of a muchness for Hazelwood, only vastly more experienced in these conditions and Pattinson can be every bit as dangerous as Starc so it's going to be a really interesting day. I feel like Siddle, much like broad and woakes, will be the bowler who just does enough with the ball either way today.

No he wasn't. It was decided not to select him for the Ireland test because he couldn't run in and bowl full tilt, only jogging.

However disappointing the second part of that day was, I think I'd still have taken 284 all out at the toss.

It will be nervous watching us bat thou I think
Both sides have good bowlers and the wicket is doing just enough...

I think Jason Roy is going to have to play naturally, if he tried to defend he will nick behind

You could, but no such thing exists.

Smith is a great batsman, but no way the second best in history!

* Bradman thought Sachin the most similar batsman he had seen to him in technique.
