Even the 3rd umpire can’t get no balls right. Stokes has cut the line

He did, back foot.

Is Woakes injured?  Cricinfo scorecard shows him bowling one 6 overs so far.

What’s the fascination with football during warmups?  Seems lots of players are getting injured doing that.

Can't be that injured he is bowling now, Root don't seem to have confidence in Ali and that's a worry. He just leaks too many runs.

Another 50 runs and we are def second in this game I reckon

The remarkable Steven Smith becomes the first man to score twin Ashes hundreds since Matthew Hayden in Brisbane 2002. This is the first time it’s happened in England since Stephen Waugh Manchester 1997. Incredible

Second fastest to 25 test centuries in 119 innings - 8 fewer than Kohli

Well batted steve Smith.

How do you get this guy out?? Seriously. His leave is annoying though.

England definitely not favourites now.....

What's a good lead for last 1.25 days of batting in Edgbaston? AUS leading by 160+ at the moment. Is there a plan here to up the run rate and get ENG to bat?

Does anybody else think England do not use their variations sparingly enough? For example Woakes just bowled two slower balls in one over - it's a bit of a ODI attitude to me. In Anderson's book he talks about variation needing to be a complete surprise to be effective. You need to bowl so many balls in the same place that the batsman get's into a rhythm of playing it, and then the variation forces the false shot, bowling variation constantly and consistently changing length and line isn't helping anybody.

Moeen is a mediocre bowler the majority of his wickets are when batsmen attack him looking for cheap ribs as it’s difficult to score against Anderson, Broad etc.

Moeen should of had a big part of the day but Root does not have the runs to give him an extended run.

We really need someone who can keep it tight when the game gets tight. Swann did that so did Panesar at his peak.

Leach would be my pick along with the best keeper. I don't care how many left handers they have you need the best bowler.

Woakes and broad now in danger of doing too much bowling because we can't stop the flow
