I kinda get what he was doing, to some degree.

Lyon was always the main threat, get him out of the attack, the easiest way was to make him unbowlable by going for runs and no threat.

The thing that gets me with it was the option he took, why come down the track, Roy had just  swept him for four, that was a good option.

Before anyone piles in i dont agree with what he did, it was reckless and unnecessary we were comfortable ish up to that point.

getting to lunch one down was key.

Ali and broad gone now, just jimmy and king woakes left

Sweep wasn’t an option as the field been moved. Lyon gets bounce.. bounce and sweeping don’t mix well.. top edge and a man was placed for it.

Hence he was forced if he wanted to attack to do something different.

Again though, using feet is reallyood but.. why attack ?? Why not just Pat it back ?

Using your feet doesn’t mean aggression after all.

Shame, it wasn’t a classic but was a decent test until today.. englsnd just again showing they ar eover rated and cant adapt with their batting. Same old story so it’s interesting to see people defending them the same way again (not here, just generally)

thats what im saying when he swept it was a good option, he then took a bad one, which shows he can think. im not defending his dismissal, i am defending him as i think he will come good

That should be the end of Moeen's international career. Everyone loves a good trier but this experiment has run its course.

Talk about knee jerk reactions!  :o

He's been very very poor this test and is drop him for sure, but the end of his international career at 32?

That is a tame ending to the test.

Well played Australia

England letting them slip from 122-8 first dig was bad second innings was bad with both ball and bat

He took the Ba done as Paine/Lyon removed the sweep. That’s what you do, you remove someone’s shot to see what they have and force them to do something daft. Roy obliges. Anywya, game over and a dire performance. Nit Roy’s fault so can’t judt bash him.

It’ll just get notched down again as a ‘one off’ as this side seems to get away with.

Well done Australia and well batted smith/burns/wade and siddle

Okay, so here's one to consider.
Was 4 years of building towards the World Cup and ODI dominance really worth this capitulation in the Test Match arena?

Moeen relies on luck rather than talent. That’s the unfortunate truth. He’s mentally weak. The nonsense about being the decongestant spinner. Lyon embarrassed Moeen.

Let’s not even talk about Moeen’s pathetic batting...

He’s low on confidence so should be dropped but.. he’s not just lucky. He’s over rated.. yes.. has his batting been over egged... yes.. is that his fault.. no

It’s ours for not being realistic about payers

He needs some time away to beat on some county sides and he can come back just not innthr ashes

Good to see that test cricket is reaching a new phase of elite fast bowling - Cummins, Bumrah and Rabada setting the benchmark. For England’s sake in this series we need Archer to join that group
