Please fire Roy, Denly, Bairstow and Moeen into a cannon somewhere: just not good enough.

He’s low on confidence so should be dropped but.. he’s not just lucky. He’s over rated.. yes.. has his batting been over egged... yes.. is that his fault.. no

It’s ours for not being realistic about payers

He needs some time away to beat on some county sides and he can come back just not innthr ashes
Away from home Moeen’s bowling average is 46 which is pathetic. He’s just a novelty cricketer

He took the Ba done as Paine/Lyon removed the sweep. That’s what you do, you remove someone’s shot to see what they have and force them to do something daft. Roy obliges. Anywya, game over and a dire performance. Nit Roy’s fault so can’t judt bash him.

It’ll just get notched down again as a ‘one off’ as this side seems to get away with.

Well done Australia and well batted smith/burns/wade and siddle

If the side gets away with it and wins the ashes does it matter?

Pro sport is about winning at the end of the say!

And no I don't think winning the world cup was worth it.. this is the premier format we should be able to win both, Smith Cummins and Lyon aside this aussie team isn't that good!

We’ve been quite poor.

Yet. It still took the Aussies 5days to complete the win. Normally we’d have folded in 3............. silver linings and that.

Edit, we also played with ten men and a bowler down for literally 5 of the days.

Okay, so here's one to consider.
Was 4 years of building towards the World Cup and ODI dominance really worth this capitulation in the Test Match arena?

Yes

I'm not excusing all our faults here, but can we also remember we lost our main bowler after 4 overs and one of the Aussie batters (and the best in the world) scored over a third of their runs!

We were poor at times but Smith is a massive part of this win. Get him early in the second innings and it's a different game for the rest of their batters and Lyon bowling on day 5. As well as he bowled the situation and pitch helped.

Smith apart the two teams for me are fairly evenly matched. We should have fought harder today, but the Aussies won this game mainly through Smith being on a different planet to everyone else. Overall they deserved it, but we're not a million miles away from them and shouldn't be looking at a mauling over the series.

We don’t have to be good, we just have to be better than you guys 🤣😂🤣😂

Since, the first game is done let’s talk about second starting with the England team.

Knowing mgmt, England will make two changes dropping Mooen for Leach and Curran or Stone or Archer coming in for Anderson.  I just hope they confirm that Archer is 100% match fit if he is selected.

Here is what I like to see for England in batting order:

Burns, Roy, Root, Denny,  Stokes, Buttler, Foakes, Woakes, Stone, Broad, Leach

For Aus I do not see them make any changes but we will most likely see Starc come in for Siddle.

Nobody hearing Banton knocking on the door in all 3 formats? Maybe not tests for a year or so but he's getting seriously close.

Another thing to remember is we are a very good nation at stealing talent from other countries, maybe we should stop looking internally and more externally for a few year plan?

Ah yes - another wicket keeper-batsman in the mix. Just what we need!

He's only broken into the Somerset team properly this season! Talent no doubt, but steady on just yet.

Not for me.

With a game at Lords we are now effectively 2 down, still could shape into a great series though; we have players who can bounce back plus new blood to replace those who are looking jaded.

Suffice to say we all want a green deck and a fit Archer at Lords; think he might cause a few issues for them but man we need to step it up at a ground they are historically very good at.
