To be honest, I don't see a problem with how Archer has conducted himself at all, as has been said the TV footage made it look worse than it was.

Genuine fast bowling like archer bowls is a rarity in this day and age, I think it odd that pro level players don't all wear a neck guard not that I think it would have prevented the blow Smith took.

It's just reminds everyone what a dangerous sport cricket can be.

Picking Roy (as an opener anyway) is proving pretty costly.

Will someone please remind Michael Vaughan that a few weeks ago he was strongly advocating the use of England's one-day opening partnership in the Ashes series?

Commentators generally seem very inconsistent when considering how different/ similar one-day and Test cricket are.

Not sure why it is such an issue is a fast bowler is not apologetic after hitting a batsman with a bouncer. For me, its part of the game. You dont see a batsman apologizing to a bowler when he smashes a six or plays a ramp. I think fast bowlers have gone soft after the Hughes incident which is understandable to some extent. But its great to watch angry fast bowlers making life difficult for batsmen and enjoying it.

Funny how when Mitchell Johnson was bowling at his best, the Australian's on the field were telling him to injure opponents, now they have all turned into snowflakes when they get some of it back.  At least Archer was sending it down to the top order - the short stuff in the second test was started by Pat Cummins bowling entire over a of bouncers at the tail

I am perfectly ok in not being apologetic but making sure / checking up on the batsmen to make sure everything they are ok, should be considered as common courtesy.  That's just my viewpoint and other folks will have different viewpoint on it which I am perfectly ok with also.

No issue with fast bowlers not apologising its part of the game. Its the batsmen's prerogative to protect themselves .

On another note I am surprised to see Roy selected again. My only hope is to see him have a chance in the middle order rather than opening. The issue for selectors will be that everyone has just been playing t20 cricket at county level for the past month....

Roy has more of a chance to do well at 4 or 5

I think England my swap him and Denly round

Far as opening goes Roy can get by without a perfect technique but not without the mental ability to bat long periods and let balls go

Far too much is being made of archers perceived reaction/ non action

No one I’m absolutely sure wants to see anyone injured from either side and I wasn’t going to bring this up but...

Johnson to Anderson-Micheal Clarke. Deliberate attempt to injure an opponent.

England made no complaint after that particular incident

Very well put. He is clearly not comfortable. I guess he needs that one good innings to get his confidence back.

If people moan about Archer not apologising, have you seen the footage of Steyns fastest spells he was savage

Also Sammy has come out at #3 for Surrey like he has in the T20 and hooked his first shot for four. Get the feeling he's rather serious about getting into England's top order...

Don’t think any of the Aussie team complained. Just CBF peeps. Fast bowlers need to maintain their fear factor (Ian Chappell mentioned they would stop lillee from checking on batsmen so he wouldn’t lose his edge), and fair play to Archer for walking back.

I do however think it was atrocious of the crowd to boo smith after such a blow - disgusting and unacceptable.

Sam also getting used to batting at three for England, as Surrey put middle order player Ryan Patel up to open and he is inevitably out early.
No idea why Borthwick didn't open.

Edit
Sam Curran batting at three today was because he is meeting up with the test team and is being subbed by Conor Mckerr.
Made sense to give him a bat!
Good time, not a long time sadly...

Seems like he switched between off spin and medium pace a bit through the day.. not sure what the balance between the two was but it's strange either way

Edit: flicking back through the live stream, it looks as if he got to 0-92 off 25 overs with off spin before switching to medium pace for a few overs, then back to off spin when he got his wickets
