@rickjames is the schedule in some way dictated by the Test Championship?
I'll be honest and say I've not really looked much into it, but I presume that's got something to do with the 8 Test winter?

The 2 tests in NZ aren't part of the WTC, as far as I'm aware. Considering we were only there 18 months ago I just find it odd we're going back so soon.

Harsh on Overton.

“Hey thanks for that one match, where you absolutely played your heart out with the bat.
But unlike Roy, we are only giving you the one opportunity to bowl well, and you failed. So off you go”

Normally I'd agree with this, but I find it difficult to have any sympathy for an unapologetic racist so good riddance to Overton.

Glad Woakes is back as long as he's 100% fit.

Woakes needs to come back yes he needs to be fully fit. stokes only batting so Curran has to come in really. Don't know if Roy will slot back in when Stokes can bowl or if it's something more permanent.

Whether he deserves more chances at no 4 is a difficult one. If the choice is from Denly...who could bat 3 if a new opener comes in therefore Root going back to 4 think I would pick Denly regardless of age.
Number 3 for Root hasn't worked has it?

Pope at least needs to be on the winter tours, I would have him at 5, no bairstow and Foakes or butler to keep.

Was he injured last game and that was the reason that he was under bowled in the other matches also? He does not come across as someone who has attitude problem and always seems to be team player, but what do I know about inner workings for ECB and test teams :D

Did not see this coming and I am wondering how often are the Marsh brothers going to continue getting chances.  I guess this move was forced due to having way to many lefties in the team.

In general I would agree about giving players time to find their feet, but in this case Overton was such an unfathomable selection in the first place that it would have been a shock had he played more than one game.  Clearly the pitch at OT was nothing like England were wanting, but as a "horses for courses" pick for that one game, there was no value in retaining him for the Oval

As long as they keep being the best options to be selected? Shauns selection issues have had as much to do with injury as form and he constantly tops run scoring tables in domestic cricket. As for Mitch Marsh, he is simply the best Allround option in Australian cricket at the moment.

If these guys weren't brothers and didn't share the Marsh name, there wouldn't be half the outrage when they get selected.

As for the selection, I think being a right hander helped, but I get the feeling that they are going for the foot on the throat approach and ideally they would be resting Pat Cummins, but want to win the ashes and not just reclaim them, so I'd be surprised if Cummins bowled much more than two spells an innings, with Marsh to make up the rest.

Marsh likely to take over as Aus captain if paine retires after this series so they have to play him

Is this now the bit where we have a massive collapse followed by Sam Curran making everyone else look like an idiot?

its a dead rubber far as im concerned but a chance for Denly, Curran to make a decent contribution for the future

also like to see Root get back to scoring big runs with a fair amount of the press suggesting he would be better off without the Captaincy, which I wholeheartley agree with...but which probably wont happen.

giving up on Bairstow going back to being a test class batsman  :)

Poor shot from Denly driving at one, no need

I'd hope that was the reason because as you said he doesn't seem the kind of bloke to annoy the captain and he's too good to be underutilised like he was last time.
