Neon Cricket 2020 softs and luggage
« on: December 23, 2019, 10:33:19 PM »

Hi all

I received a parcel today with some new softs and bags for the coming season.

For now I'll share the photos, with a review on each of the items to follow in this thread.

A new addition to the range is the wheelie duffle

Another new addition is the individual training bag

And there's been an update to the gloves and pads

First up my thoughts on the new wheelie duffle.

My hunt for "the perfect bag" has seen my try more Duffles and wheelies than I'd like to count. This is my first foray into the crossover world of wheelie Duffles.

My first impression was "wow, I like this material". Being "denim effect material" they look absolutely class and have a real sturdy, premium feel to them.

The colours are conservative enough they'll appeal to pretty much anyone, with the logo large yet not "in your face".

The second thing that struck me was just how much room this bag has. I put some gear in to see how much it can hold and there was plenty of room to spare once I'd loaded batting and keeping kit.

With a pocket on each side for your pads, 2 padded bat covers at the back, a shoe tunnel and a front pocket there is plenty of room for kit and clothing.

The back of the bag and the straps have plenty of padding meaning comfort while carrying. Another small but genius touch is the pocket to tuck the straps into while wheeling the bag.

Overall I'm highly impressed with this. The material feels premium, the build quality is excellent and the design really utilises all the space available in the bag. While it's not small, it's not huge. Being a wheelie duffle it also stands up meaning it won't take up too much floor space in a dressing room.

While not cheap at £89.99, bags have gone up in price over the last few years. You're paying the going rate for a bag and getting an excellent product. As far as I'm concerned if you're after a new bag you can't go wrong with a neon wheelie duffle!

Next up is another new product for 2020, the individual training bag.

Made from the same material as the wheelie duffle bag this is another premium piece of luggage.

A decent size for a weekend bag, there's plenty of room for clothing, towels etc. With a pocket on each end, a generous centre pocket and a hidden valuables pocket inside this would be excellent for both match days or everyday use.

There's a shoulder carry strap that can be attached a couple of different ways, so the "adjustability" means it will be comfortable to carry.

Overall this is a brilliant bag with a huge variety of uses. Be it for cricket, going away or everyday use you can't go wrong with one of these. At £39.99 these bags aren't the cheapest, but they're built to last so the initial cost could be viewed as more of an investment.

And last but by no means least the 2020 softs.

I did a detailed review of the 2018 versions which have served me well for 2 seasons, and held up exceptionally well. While there's nothing wrong with my old softs, this is CBF and we all like new kit, right...

My original review can be found here http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=43689.0

The Gloves

The design of these hasn't change that much, so you're still getting Test Level protection with a 4 split finger design and pittard palms.

One of the changes is that what used to be a silver bar is now white with a carbon effect. As they're now totally white these gloves ooze class and will go with any kit you chose to pair them with.

Once again these are true to size and they come out of the packet being very comfortable and flexible. The triple split on the thumb means you get a lot of padding and great flexibility.

For £79.99 you get a top quality pair of gloves that will stand up to anything that's thrown (or should that be bowled) at them. I said in 2018 that Neon gloves were up there with the best I've ever used. I think the fact I'm still using them 2 years on speaks for itself. I cannot recommend these highly enough.

The pads

How do you improve on a classy pair of white pads with minimal branding? Make them ICC compliant so they have even fewer logos, of course!

These are traditional pads with 7 canes, and minimal branding which means they'll match anything once more.

These aren't the lightest in the world coming in at 943 grams per pad, but the protection they offer is second to none. Once you're wearing pads are a few grams really noticeable anyway? I'd say no (though I'm sure some will argue it is)

As well as only having one logo on the front of each pad, only the middle strap has a logo now and there isn't one on the quilted back of the top hat.

Overall these are a top quality pair of pads. With quilted top hats, padded straps, padded buckles and a leather instep  they have all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a premium product. They offer great protection and look pure class. At £99.99 you're paying top end prices, but they're cheaper than the "big brands" and top quality. I honestly think these offer great value for money.

Kit looks very nice and I do like the minimal branding look, not a fan of split finger gloves personally but the pads do look like a top end pad and like the subtle changes. I must say Cam your a great brand ambassador when you can justify £40 for basically a gym bag that’s £10 -£15 from any other company lol.
I do like the look of the wheelie duffle and will watch to see how it holds up after a season of being carried and wheeled around in terms of the base corners lasting.
Great detailed review as always mate

Same for me, especially not on the thumbs!
The lighter the pads the better!

It's a phrase/saying. Just means to use it for real rather than testing them out, so I'm assuming his son has a match today.
