Firstly, i must confess, as a fellow left-arm bender, I like the kid - I really do. I think he offers variety, I think he's got some skills and despite being 12, he has some balls.

Much has been discussed about him; his lack of pace, his inexperience, his crap record away from home. One of the biggest challenges is that he is too similar in job to Lord Ben Stokes (ie, a bit of a batter who acts as your 4th seamer), however he does seem to offer a bit of a 'golden arm', he seems to come on and break partnerships, and (dare I say it) rather like Botham, he seems to tempt batsmen into shots they shouldn't play.

For me, he should be involved in an attack that should avoid 4 x medium right arm quicks

Secondly - today he proved he can do a job overseas

Thirdly; he won't get any better unless he gets a consistent run in the side

I like him as back up to a 3-man front line pace attack.  I don't think he is good enough yet to play as the 3rd seamer unless the bowling conditions are favourable but generally I am impressed with what I see if him

21 years old and only 13 matches, thinks like a veteran - even if execution can be somewhat wayward. Needs time and some faith IMO.

Some faith is probably the right thing - right now, I think he is selected on faith, much the way a young Andrew Flintoff was.  I don't think anyone knows if he will grow into being a third seamer, or whether his batting will develop to the level where he is selected as a batsman who bowls, but there is a belief that he will do one or other of those things.

Left arm variety causes good batsmen serious problems. Philander is all the proof anyone should need that express pace isn't a requirement to be a world class seam bowler. He just needs to refine his control and keep pushing on with his batting.

Don’t see all the fuss tbh. Had a decent day out today but he’s a luxury rather than a vital member of the side.

If Stokes gives up the bowling then maybe Curran could be developed into number 7 batsman and 4th seamer. To be the third seamer he needs to get up into the mid 80s.

Why?? Watching Vernon philander bowl this morning and he's 75-80 no slower than Curran

Maybe if Curran can get control and accuracy to night on 100% then he wouldn't need the extra pace!

I'd rather see that given the left arm abgke and ability to move the ball through the air

IF he can be accurate and seam it then you don’t need pace (Darren Stevens).. you must must must be accurate and be able to swing and seam it ball after ball though or you’ll be picked off

Again, all this should be done at lower levels and he should be arriving at the test arena almost the finished product.

You see these right arm medium pacers that are very successful but the left arm versions seldom achieve the same. Philander is many levels above Curran and despite Curran’s age I can’t see him ever getting to Philander’s level.

He could be held in the same regard what does it matter of he's left or right handed, it doesnt

I see him as a successful T20 and ODI player. He got a big IPL contract from CSK.

IF he did the training and changed his mentality then sure.. he plays too much white though and philander would be smashed in white ball. Curran will never be close to philander sadly and the only way he could would be to totally dedicate himself which financially he will never do
