Keeley Worx - Grade 1: 2lb 11oz
« on: January 24, 2020, 04:07:25 AM »

Good Morning!. A close mate of mine sourced this bat for himself from an individual seller in the UK who knows Tim personally. I had a close look at this bat when it arrived in Dubai and was surprised how big it was with a bit thicker semi-oval handle and a square toe. The bat came in knocked, scuffed and edge tape applied. The bat is of standard length and the pressing is a bit softer to my other Keeleys I own/owned. The ping is very good as is the pickup as you would expect for the weight. The bat does not pick lighter than its actual weight but the balance and pickup is immaculate. Another thing what astonished me was how this bat had only 6-7 grains and graded as Grade 1. I did read an article on grading that a grade 1 bat will have minimum 6 grains at least. I had my doubts as I did not see a Keeley grade 1 with 6-7 grains till now. I am sure this bat will take considerate amount of time to open up for sure. The bat did tap up well and I guess requires more knocking for it to be taken into nets. Refer below specs and enjoy the pictures.

Weight - 2lb 11oz
Edges - 40mm
Pickup - Medium
Ping - Good ping
Profile - Full profile, and nil concaving

It could be if he sourced it direct from TK then he had his choice of stickers? Not sure that looks wise it would  constitute a grade one. However I think TK sometimes does grade on performance so who knows

Grade 1? Lols, your mate's been mugged there. Looks a nice stick though.

If I know one thing about TK bats its not to even worry about aesthetics, some of the pingiest ones I had were grade 4 or 5 on looks

Rarely you see a very good looking grade-1 with Keeley. I think all his top clefts are reserved for pros which makes sense as he makes them for so many players.

Possibly had his own choice of stickers and then sold it to my mate.

I don't think so for the price he paid.

Why is that not G1?? Grading states min of 6 grains, that are starlight with no blemish and from what i can see there are 6/7 grains, straight and evenly spaced. Looks a good bat to me

I agree it looks a gun, also with a pro type handle. A former member who sold Keeley made bats would have come up with a great story for it.
That looks like a great bat, I hope it scores loads of runs.

I was so used to seeing 8 to 9+ grains bat on a grade 1 especially Keeleys. That is why I doubted it. Its a very good bat no doubt.

May I ask what is a pro type handle?

Thicker more oval handle that the pros prefer. The regular bats have slightly thinner handle

Yes you're right. The handle of this is definitely a bit thicker than my Keeley Superior.

So why do we think he makes thinner handles for non pros? The one I have has a fairly thin oval handle too. I would have thought that pros have better wrist control and less likely to need a very thick oval handle. Any thoughts?

I held Azhar Ali's Keeley bat recently.. Skinny handle like most keeleys...2.9, full specs with no concaving, 14 ruler straight grains front and back and the whitest willow possible.. Not sure he sells those sort of clefts at retail having seen quite a few shop g1s and 'pro' keeleys that float around here
