TKC had form for being disloyal. Mind you, his move to Yorkshire has seemed to have helped  his career massively.

I think you're confusing "to" with "back to" here - and I think it is an important distinction in this case.

You're right. I had forgotten. All I remember is Steve Rhodes - a Yorkshireman himself - not being happy. Rhodes' own sense of loyalty was later found to be ill-judged, if memory serves.

Out of interest with this mate, what will be the protocol for what happens next with these players effectively breaching your contract? Obviously from the outside it looks completely unacceptable and as you said, a real betrayal of a loyal brand with a great reputation. Disappointing to see

I agree, but it comes down to business and when time and energy exceed the potential worth of a deal you cut your losses.

Thanks you, unfortunately the world of sports has things called agents who are constantly looking for their guys the best deal. Obviously however trying to keep up with some brands financially means we would need to increase prices which we don't want to do as a brand.

Rich

Couldn't agree more Rich, when you're getting quoted £3,000 a season + the usual kit allowances for players who are at best mid-level players the general public have barely even heard of you really have to question why the main brands bother. I have the same conversations year after year with pros approaching me directly for kit, only to then pass me over to their agent and the demands suddenly change tenfold. Literally killing any sponsorship outside of the international multi-sport brands.

I won't go into any detail but last week I was offered a "great deal" for an up and coming academy player - wanted £2,000 a year plus what worked out to be roughly £4,000 RRP in kit. Has never played above County 2nd XI - delusional.

£2000 a year so that someone can use Neon kit in a game that will be watched by approximately 7 people, not sure why you didn't jump at this opportunity? 😅

How much do you reckon pretend sponsored players pretend they're getting paid?

Maybe we need to make more use of the term "supported" players. To me, sponsored is payment in cash/kit. Supported is your "30% off RRP if you only use our kit in your games this year".

Who gets these kinds of deals? And what sorts of brands offer them?

Supported or sponsored? Imagine the majority of the small brands offering kit to junior representative players/good standard club players/etc are offering % off RRP rather than full kit or cash as payment. Major brands (eg: Gray Nics, GM, Kookaburra) you'd imagine are handing cash and kit to big name players in return for endorsement.

But club players wouldn't get % deals from big brands?  Club players being 'sponsored' (in any sense of the word) by Adidas and New Balance seems unlikely to me.

the other side to the story, ie the player prespective...

there are occasions when the brands do not either:

1. pay up on time or at all
2. send quality goods in a timely manner

hence players tend to move around more often now days?

Yeah I would have thought that's unlikely, doesn't make sense as an investment from a major global brand.
