Refurbed Trott player edition
« on: February 14, 2020, 05:48:05 PM »

Posted this in the eBay thread but as promised here’s the after pics.

Will do a proper review once I’ve been home and got my hands on it. Can’t really ask the folks to be measuring  bat shoulders  :D

Refurb and repair looks good except for letting the work experience kid loose on the toe guard.

@Kulli, any chance you could document your process for other folks to use when they need to refurbish their bats?  Finding someone local who does good work and does not charge arm and leg for the work in USA is painful.  I have 2 or 3 bats that I would like to clean up and use again.  If I had a good step by step guide on how about it it would be great.  I have looked at some Youtube videos on removing the labels, but get stuck on options available to clean the glue (turpentine, paint thinner etc) and than the sanding part (which one to use and which order (coarse, fine, superfine), is where I get lost.

Use a heat gun or hairdryer to heat the stickers and scuff before removing. Heat them as you go and remove them across the grain to avoid pulling bits of the face up with them. Glue any major cracks and tape/clamp overnight.

To get rid of any residue left I find white spirit is good, just apply a little at a time and let it work for a minute or so then scrape off. Once clean glue up any small cracks with super glue, leave to dry and then start sanding.

Depending on the state of the bat depends on grit, but start coarse and work to fine. Random orbital if possible and ensure the sandpsper disc is covering the velcro bit so it doesn't scratch the bat.

Once done oil or wax and job done.

Yup that toe guard doesnt look upto GMs usual high standards... had a bat refurbed recently and one of the side stickers was really wonky...

Must have some trainees helping out on refurbs...

I didn’t do this one but can document how to do a refurb if you want. However the search function and google should show you everything you need to know. Any specific questions ask here, people are always happy to help.

I’ sure I can sort I’m that myself. But I do agree. Point to note @Edward Lowy, real shame to have someone’s experience of a beautiful refurb spoiled over something that would have taken maybe a minute to tidy up.

@Kulli any chance you could put some side profile photos up of this bat mate?
Also specs would be awesome. Found myself back at this thread as I love the Trott profile.
