Even doing it from home involves a delivery company/postman making the journey to collect your items, to then take those items halfway across the country/world, to then deliver to a customer at the other end. All at the same time as these companies are being needed to deliver actual vital equipment/packages to ensure the public's safety. The amount of resource involved in delivering even one simple parcel is far beyond what most realise (without even starting to consider the 'what if' should one of the people in this chain be carrying the virus).

I know I'm getting into the nitty gritty and some might say this is taking things to an excessive level, but my 'other job' helps make my decision in this respect. Ultimately I'd rather take no unnecessary risks and ensure all my customers/fiancée/unborn child are subject to the least amount of risk possible during this.

What a ridiculous statement.
So basically in your view even those businesses/individuals working from home should all stop? Because the vast majority of them require infrastructure and services beneath and around them. And I dont just mean the cricket industry.

I thing you are very wrong and that is certainly not what has been advised.

As I understand it, mail order is still fine. Delivery firms should have strict protocols for avoiding contact etc. But watch this space, the rules might change.

Working from home doesn't require other services in the same way that delivery services do. The very premise of it in this situation is that it gets you away from people. In my job, when I work from home, I see no one other than my household. That is the same for almost everyone.

What has been advised is very very clear. All non essential work stops. If you don't understand that then you are part of the problem.

We will soon be in a total lockdown where everyone is housebound without special exception because of people that aren't following the crystal clear advice.

Everyone should be working from home or not working with the exception of food suppliers, Royal mail, essential construction (such as the nightingale hospital) , and supermarkets. Even they should be running a skeleton service.

The government now have schemes in place for the self employed and employed in order to stop the need to work.

The self employed scheme can give you up to nearly 3k a month to survive on while this situation is going on. As long as you haven't tried to cheat the system.

Who provides your internet? Phoneline? Who provides your mail? Is that not infrastructure? You might not see it but its being done. And that is the minimum people use at home

That government advice you mention is not correct. The Conservative MPs have continuously said, even this morning on the radio, that if you can go to work safely all then do so. The messages theyve sent out are very mixed. There are building sites open all over the country. I dont think bedroom cricket retailers are a massive problem in the grand scheme of things

If you'd read my post...youd understand, Internet and phone are all essential. A bedroom cricket brand is not an essential service. The aforementioned are.

If you honestly are not sensible enough to realise at this stage that ALL NON ESSENTIAL WORK SHOULD CEASE, then there is no opening your eyes.

Just FYI the advice was entirely as I said.

See below. It specifically states that nonessential shops should close.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-uk-lockdown-rules-laws-banned-activities-events-fines-covid-2020-3%3famp

As does the video the PM put up when announcing the lockdown.

A bedroom cricket trader is no more a problem than any other trader or salesman working from a laptop and phone. Which they are all doing.

I dont class a bedroom cricket seller as a shop atall. No one goes in and out

I'm not certain about this, but all the big online suppliers e.g. Amazon etc. are still operating their mail order for non essential items, and today Halfords reopened for click and collect plus bike repairs (which might be judged essential). If the big companies are being allowed to interpret the rules that way then the small players are probably safe under the current guidelines.

I'm not making a judgement about what is right, just stating what I see.

Whether you class it as a nonessential shop or not isn't really relevant.

They put more strain on the postal and delivery service, which increases demand for workers, the more people working, the increased likelihood of the virus spreading because inevitably there will be contact. Medical advisers have come out and said the virus can even live on the post and to wear gloves or wash your hands after touching it, yet you think it's a good idea to burden the delivery services with more parcels... Great idea champ.

A salesperson or trader has no contact with anyone else. People posting goods do.

That is what is happening. I'm arguing about what should be happing which at this point is that everything nonessential should cease.

For what it's worth, I rent a commercial unit/pay significant overheads so doing this is costing my business money. For me to sell an item I have to physically leave my home and go to my unit which is where I drew the line (the unit is also inside an old converted mill on shared premises so who knows who else has been through the main entrance/internal doors etc.).

I get it's different for everyone and each shop will have their reasons, but ultimately The point is that working now isn't going to change how well they rebound out of this. They'd be better off doing what Adam is doing, I.e. Social media engagement to stay relevant, taking the support on offer for now, and then go from there. Nothing they do now is going to change what happens in 6 months
Ultimately, there is going to be a global recession, and nothing we can do now will prepare us for, or prevent it. So risking longer in lockdown by continuing to operate is foolhardy and will only seek to further the damage caused

So I assume your request for bruised bats for refurbishment will only be sent after the Lockdown as it’s not essential business
