New 2020 Garrad & Flack bats
« on: April 15, 2020, 01:43:52 PM »

These are my two new Garrad & Flack bats for 2020. These are both the new for this year 2.20 profile which are 1/4 inch shorter blade overall SH length bats.

With the downtime recently Iv been reviewing my last few seasons runs and noticed that I scored more runs at a higher average on the two years I was using a GM with a L540 length blade as opposed to traditional SH bats so I’m my wisdom that meant I needed to replace a couple of SH bats with shorter blade options.

Garrad & Flack are my local bat maker now living in Suffolk and being totally honest for the first Couple of seasons I had seen them I had been a little under whelmed as they sounded very hard but having had one a while ago from a certain forum member and fan of G&F my mind was changed as it was a superb bat ping wise just a tad heavy for me.

So these are 2.8 and 2.95 in weight. The lighter being the one with the armour tech face sheet. Both are G2 willow. The first has 7 grains with a heartwood strip and the other having 6 very straight grains and all sap wood. Single chevron grip with a semi oval handle and the handles are fairly skinny certainly in comparison to GM but a little thicker than my GN bats.
Profile wise these are mid/high middle which is my preference and due to this the pick up is superb. I would actually say the heavier one of the two picks up lighter than the lighter bat.
Size wise they are good without being amazing. The 2.8 is 34mm edge and approx 60mm spike and the 2.95 bat is 35mm edge and approx same spine height.

Performance wise they age both very good with the lighter one being a tad more responsive from the off and a little softer but both are very nice indeed.
Finishing is good not quite to a Salix finish but certainly better than a couple of the big mainstream brands I have with a lively willow smell to them when taken out the box.
Styling wise I think they age very classy and minimal stickers but they colours for well and look classy. Fingers crossed they can get into the nets some point soon and then out to the middle at some point this season.

Ed was very easy to talk to all done via email and messaging due to lockdown and

Personally I think this side on shot makes it look a little higher than the middle actually is but one thing I will say is they perform across most of the blade. Obviously the bottom couple of inches are dead but from looking at the cherries on most of my other bats I rarely hit lower down. I’m also fairly short and out home track is fairly quick and lively so a higher middle helps especially as an opener.

Those are certainly high middles! How far from the toe is the high point of the spine if you can be bothered to check?

They look lovely sticks mate, hope they go well when we can finally get some cricket!

Lovely looking bats. I've been considering getting a 2.20 for a while. Like a high middle, but concaving is only thing holding me back. Prefer convex shapes. They do look classy

@jonny77 as a follow on to your question and this is only roughly as used a old tape measure the highest point of the spine is 249mm on the lighter bat and 247mm in the other. Not sure if the fact they are shorter blades makes a difference when compared to a standard SH bat. As a follow on to your thread about low/mid/high middles and from most people’s views these would be classed as on the higher side then and maybe higher than most.
