Would like to see how the knotted one turns out - my favourite bat has a hideous looking knot on the back edge (level with the tip of the splice) and the bat is a rocket.  I would have no hesitation in buying a bat that is imperfect in a trivial area - great way to pick up a bargain :)

Busy evening tonight and been a very busy last few weeks with the run up to the season.

Firstly finished off this G1 for a lad at our club who is skipper of our first team this season. 2lb 10oz once I add the grip. This is a SL06 but he isn’t a fan of a large duckbill so this is more of a hybrid with a small duckbill and the spine subtly dropping into the toe.
Thin shoulders and the bulk of the swell in the middle of the bat. Copied the bulk area from his old GN Select.

Next up this evening was the initial shaping of these 3 SL06 profile shapes all from orders in the past week. Two of these are G2 and one is a G3. I’ll share more of these in the coming days.

Hi Chris, how does that above G1 differ from the G3 you made for yourself? The above cleft has heartwood and spec but is a grade 1? I would be a little disappointed to receive that as a G1

I’ve had the two bats below custom made - these have been very generously sold as grade 2’s and for an absolute bargain price. These could easily pass as G1’s in today’s current market

Hope you don’t think I’ve gone off topic on your thread.

Hi @e4sby this is a G1 on the basis of multiple straight grains and overall blemish free blade. This is a G1 as bought directly as a G1 cleft.

The one I made for myself has 5/6 grains from memory, cats paws or mable effect in the playing area and multiple specs and pin knots. Either way both are superb performing sticks

The grading debate on this forum has gone on for as long as the forum itself I have no doubt. I don’t and so far have not deviated from the grades in which I buy my clefts as I believe the grading To have been fair, and why I only offer G1, G2 and G3. I don’t have internal grades or “pro” Grade Grade 1+++ etc which charges more for a nicer looking cleft which is still a G1 etc.

Little forum offer if anyone is interested

This is a G1 Cleft that unfortunately when it was machines revealed a nasty knot on the rear of the bat. It will be fully covered by the stickers but is unfortunate on a lovely piece of timber.

It’s also not the lightest cleft at 3lb 2oz before any shaping but if someone wants a me down weight bat I’m happy to offer in my SL06 profile for £150 delivered in the U.K.

If interested drop me a message.

I agree discussions on grading will forever roll on... at the end of the day there is no hard and fast rule and a G1 in someone’s eyes are a G1 in anothers...

Very generous offer that I'm sure someone will snap up. But could you not drop the shoulders and remove the knot that way. LH SB set up?

@Kez I possibly could but it would be a very big drop and in my opinion these shaped bats don’t sell very well so I’d rather just stick to offering a stock shape to be honest.

Such a shame and I guess it must be a bit like opening a Kinder surprise egg once you start machining a cleft! You can't get much further away from the playing area that's for sure.

That’s very honest of you. Some would have put stickers over it and sold it as a G1.

I thought you said that you'd made bat for yourself, shorter blade, which had damage lower on the blade,
Might be , it was someone
