One of the commentators mentioned the catching the other day, they put it down to the new type of flood lights they use at these grounds in Dubai, they're downward facing lights that go round the whole diameter of the ground*, not your traditional "crane" type lights, the lighting types means that you only get the light source below the light itself and don't get light pollution in the night sky, so if the ball goes above the floodlights into the night sky and then back down into the lights it's very hard to adjust your eyes too it.


*this isn't the case in the current ground.

Well going point, lot of high catches being dropped in the current IPL edition

Ever since reading Cricket 2.0 my appreciation for the contribution and strategies in T20 has grown - but that Sharjah ground is starting to do my head in.

Strips are roads and boundaries are so short that you may as well just put a batting cone there and let each batsmen have 2 swings and see who ends up with the most runs.

The thing that really gets to me is the spindoctoresque commentary and respective fans fawning spouting contextless statistics about how amazing the striking/SR/avg is of their favourite batsmen (... at this ground).  And getting excited about any new records and tournament stats from this ground!

Come on, hitting sixes on a road with a square boundary at a shade over 50 meters is what U-13s do - let's hold professional cricketers to some form of standard!

Yep ... 438 runs in 40 overs ... 14 sixes hit by each team.

Been a few days since the last match there and I was wondering whether it may have changed a bit but it seems not :(

While KKR made 210 in a losing chase, it was pretty brainless batting. 38 dots in their innings.

How do you make 210 runs when going scoreless almost 2 balls every over? So focused on the maximums at this ground that they forgot how to score any other way.

DC had 16 less dots in their innings which pretty much accounts for their 18 run win.

I'm only watching highlights but dear god KP is a shocking commentator. Sounds like he's done about a pound of coke every time someone hits a boundary.
