The stiffer more plastic type of face sheets like hammer edge are about 0.75oz and the helicopter scuff sheets are around 0.4oz.  Adding a toe guard will be around 0.25oz as well, so you could add in the region of 1oz to a bat by fitting a scuff sheet and toe guard.

We’re not talking about toe guards. Obviously they will make more of a difference as they are at the very end of the opposite end you’re holding - basic physics. A scuff sheet is a tiny amount of weight, spread evenly across a large surface area. I’ve just weighed one - 12g, and that’s including the backing sheet. I reckon the backing sheet makes up 1/3 of the total weight, so you’re talking 8g or 0.28oz.

If anyone says they can feel the difference between a bat that weighs 2lb 10oz and 2lb 10.28oz then they are speaking utter nonsense. However, Paul from IJC will probably give you a job.  :D

Interesting you're weighing a scuff much less, mine were weighed after removal. I'm certainly not trying to say you can feel a .25oz difference, I'm just saying a collective weight of circa 1oz (your add on's may vary) is not really negligible. It's certainly not major either!

If you truly want the answer, get a digital food scale and weigh time to time. In my experience, bats do gain/lose weight (up to 1 oz). Also depends on where your bats are coming from, and what the humidity level of the origin is relative to yours - this is why any bat I get from the Uk, drops 1-1.5oz here in North America (houses are drier due to heating during winters), whereas Indian bats don’t show much change. Also, a bat that is newly manufactured, will have more moisture to lose than something that’s been sitting on the shelf for a year.

Get a scale and track the changes - going by feel isn’t enough as the same weight can feel lighter/heavier on different days.

The clear sheets are closer to 0.5 oz. @SurreySam is correct. The fibre sheets are much lighter at 0.25oz. I think GM sheets are a smidge thinner than the other clear sheets, and are about 0.35 oz (that’s how much the removed Stokes sheet weighed when I took it off).

And each person is different - to me 0.3 oz does make a difference in feel. Inzimam was famous for just grabbing any bat lying around and going out to play - he didn’t care about the weight at all. To each their own. Rather than telling people they are speaking nonsense for being able to tell the difference in 0.3-0.5 oz, let them decide on their own.

This is actually what I'm experiencing but why? That's what I want to know, has this got to do how body muscles are feeling or arm muscles, tiredness? There must be some exploration for this, it doesn't seem that bat is weighting differently every other day

Its both from my experience.  I do have a set of digital scales which I have used to weigh bats for the sake of curiosity. They do fluctuate both up and down to a surprising degree.

In terms of how heavy they feel when you use them, your perception will also fluctuate based on muscle fatigue and recovery.  If I pick up a bat the day after I have been doing pull ups which fatigue the muscles in the forearms, it feels far heavier than 2 days letter when the muscles have repaired.

but then, if lifting not even light weights, then how will I get a stronger/arms? Not only batting, but for bowling and throwin the ball?

Simple solution as a quick fix prior to nets /games - shadow bat with 2 bats held together, then switch to the bat you’re using.

No, its good to lift just make sure you give yourself enough rest before training or a match so your muscles recover from the soreness. Diet can be vital too.

Or be like the madman I used to play football with - who would run a 10K 'for fun' then come play a full football match right after - and lift weights on the days you have cricket training and matches.

Realistically, if you are as you say getting older, it'll take longer to recover from any challenging exercise so just allow more time for recovery and it'll be fine.
