Those Burns and Amla dismissals were somewhat questionable, particularly Burns' which looked outside the line by some way.

However, Ollie Pope bringing up his 50 with a lovely straight drive is a wonderful sight...

Root 11, Crawley 1...

To be fair to Crawley, he got an absolute beauty (though it did make him look like a Bairstow impersonator)

Bowl a million effort leggys...A rare % will be 'that' ball you dream of. Even rarer to do it in a match, with the right wicket conditions (and a camera filming it)....

Hats off Matt Parkinson. An absolute gem. Living the dream for a million amateurs that dream of bowling this delivery in a filmed match!

Is it too early to just give the title to Durham?

Six knocks, nothing below 50 (and that was retired out).  Not seen him in this form in about four years!

Ed Genius Smith will be frantically trying to find his number.

What a great comeback from Essex! Absolutely unbelievable from where they were on Day1!

Haha don't joke about it. Much as Peanut is one of my favourite players, and as good he is to watch, I am not sure I see much point rehashing old ground. He may - stress may - have been worth a second go in international cricket, but not as a Test opener. His game is more suited to batting 4 or 5 in Test matches, or opening in T20, and there really haven't been any real gaps in those areas in recent times.

Reminds me of Yorkshire winning at Chelmsford from 50 all out! 😂

Conversely, Azad looks like an interesting prospect for an opening slot if Sibley is out injured. Clearly has no problem batting time!

Aye.  I was thinking about this on the golf course today - of the likely lads, Stokes is certainly out and Sibley is an outside bet at best, whilst Burns was probably on borrowed time and (whatever you think of them) Buttler, Malan, Bairstow, Ali and Sam Curran are not guaranteed to be back from the IPL.  Oh and Jof is likely to need a little more time too.  Leaves me thinking that those two tests against the Kiwis will see quite an "experimental" looking side.

On the positives from two rounds of games, Pope and Root have made runs and Broad got good overs in the bag and James Bracey made runs against Surrey.  And Ollie Robinson, who must surely get a debut this summer, has about a hundred wickets already.
