Nobody had any objections to him going there, he had to go and see if he liked that standard. He took a fair few wickets but was batted down at 8 which is far too low for him. Think there was also a fair bit of nepotism and favouritism there.

His dad doesn’t really want to play, he loves being a part of things but would much rather be watching with a few beers than playing. His son is only playing when his dad is around as he doesn’t get to see much of him due to a variety of reasons. He’ll more than likely score 500 Runs and get 30 wickets this year, if he plays most games we’ll more than likely get promoted

My first game of the season today and our 2nd league game of the season and our first win.

Bowled Oppo out for 88 inside 30overs. Not a great ground to be honest and wicket looked like it would be awful but actually played ok. Great opening spell had them 28-5 off 16 overs and then the change bowlers had a bit of a mare conceding 30 runs from the next 4 overs. Skipper asked me to have a bowl and with my military medium bowled 6 overs, 3 maidens 2 wickets for 4 runs which was pleased with and think that maybe my role this year having given up the gloves due to age and fingers just can’t take it anymore. Was down to bat at 4 which having always been an opening bat I get the feeling that the new skipper has other plans for the top order.

We lost a wicket 4th ball but lost no more to reach the target in 14 overs and all done by 4:00pm. Great to get our first win of the season

Oh dear... we bowled a team out 51 and then get skittled ourselves for 44 !! Even worse, I topped scored for our side with 6 !!

Frustratingly we really didn't help ourselves
- 2 players pulled out after I had turned down an offer from a couple of guys from my Sunday side who were looking for a match.  The eventual replacements was guy who had never played before and someone in his 70 who may as well have never played before.
- skipper takes off our best bowler with opposition 9 down for around 35. Last pair put together best partnership of their innings although in fairness their No.10 looked like a proper batsman.
- we allowed 2 people to go out to umpire and one gave a shocking LBW (arguably our best batsman) and the other a run out when it looked the batsman had passed the stumps.

As we umpire ourselves, I walked on a very faint nick then learned afterwards that the chap umpiring hadn't heard it and would not have given it. However their opening batsman did the same so have to play fair.

Played a nice friendly Saturday.

We batted first and made about 160. Opened and faced two slow-mediums (my kryptonite) opening the bowling. I was promptly out for a duck after being about 5 minutes early on every shot even whilst batting about 2 yards outside my crease. One lad batting at 7 got his first 50 for us to bring us up to a decent total.

They were 40-0 off 10 for a steady start. Got given the ball first change and bowled 8 straight through 2-25. I had three misfields off my bowling for boundaries! Would have been a very tidy spell if not for that. I’ve been really working on my off-spin and got one to rag back about a foot to take off stump! The batsman thought the keeper had knocked it onto the stumps and wouldn’t walk at first! The lad who got 50 (a bowler by trade) then came on and quickly picked up 5-for due to some... interesting shots! He tried to bowl well outside off-stump off 2 paces to the youngsters coming in as he felt bad, but two of them ended up playing on! We then opened it up even more with lads who never usually bowl and they got up to 120 before they were all out

Played friendly yesterday,
Went on at 134 for 7 off 26 overs.
a slow low wicket, young lads bowling meant careful play.
We reached 202 for 8 in 40 overs.
I was 25 no.
Funny incident to note is that after the end of last over no. 8 batsman said " you must take a single, take a single". I said, 'let's see".
Hit the off spinner down to long on, next ball, he tried to heave to the mid wicket and he's caught at mid wicket 🙂.
Oppos made 146 on 40 overs.
I bowled, last 4 of 8 overs, bowling wasn't good at all, felt too cold, even though I had been stretching whole the time in the field!

We had a good close game yesterday. Dug ourselves out of a hole to get to 140 from our 40 after being 35-5 (I opened and got 9 then a magic ball that pitched a foot outside off and swang back to take top of middle!). Then managed to restrict them enough to take it to the 39th over, but were just 10 runs or so short in the end. Good effort considering it was a decent pitch and fast outfield. I bowled 9.1 overs through the middle (finished off an injury over for the 1 ball) and got 3-10 which I was happy with considering I'm not primarily a bowler. Literally everything hurts this morning though..... Should be back to normal by thursday  :D

Got our season properly started yesterday with a friendly, belting game that we won by two runs. I started nicely, lost my way and then recovered to 55 in an opening stand of 111 in 16 before our middle order all ran themselves out, tail wagged to get us to 221 off 40. Snagged myself an early grab at slip and had a decent trundle, they batted well but were always behind the rate until the last ten and just left themselves too much to do. Really good feeling to be playing again!

Why you feel you lost your way?

First game of the season, dreading it having not done any kind of net/practice as a Sunday side. Did Couch to 5k though, so I guess I have some element of fitness

Hah. Oppo scored 288 in 40, #3 and #4 biffed everything, didn't give us a sniff

Came in at 9 and scored 19, so not a bad way to start I suppose. Lost by 60 odd, made a go of it

Another friendly win for us today. Batted first and we got about 220 off our 40. I came in at 15-2 and scored a run a ball 50 retired, in addition to one of our lads getting his first 50. Truth be told the bowling was very slow and wide and there were singles all round the ground given their average age was about 60!

They looked good in the chase until they were 4 down. They got 180-ish in the end. Personally kept for 40 overs, most of it up to the stumps. Let 4 byes past which was good, missed a stumping though

Good signs for our first league game next week

Good result yesterday but fairly chastening for me. Certainly didn’t bowl badly, but got put on trying to turn the ball up the slope with the short boundary to the leg side for a right handed bat. Probably my worst ball got my one wicket, drag down steered straight to short fine leg, but also a drop in the covers off me and the keeper reckons he should have got one that was inside edged for four past leg but he’d stood up too early so couldn’t get back down. Ended with 8/0/64/1, which by my standards is terrible but taking into account bowling vs the slope with a short leg side boundary that I was hacked over a few times I certainly have bowled worse for more reward. Partially popped my thumb out during my spell which has been uncomfortable since.

We chased their 209 four down, with 3 59s and a 35 included. I was at 7 so didn’t bat, which was a bit of a relief as I wasn’t sure about being able to grip the bat

420 vs 44! Don't know what to think of this...
