We are not going to get a great squad under the circumstances, Banton is one that has been really unlucky he's got promise, but I don't see how the situation could be avoided,he had to be in the squad as cover for Roy.

Hain I know little about but agree with @Jimbo, if there's a chance he could play at 4 which I think you are saying(Malan up) then what do the selectors find out about Vince they don't already know.

I like Vince a lot but not making an argument he should be picked again.

So on the call ups it is worth mentioning that the ECB have tried to be even handed on the counties and not take too many from one.

If you look at the likely top order, a combo of
Jacks
Duckett
Vince
Malan
Stokes
Plus Crawley and Lawrence, who have international experience and are known to the management, to bring in Hain to sit on the bench (his isn't going to take Malan's role) isn't worth it.

I was amazed that there were no Yorkies in there - I was sure they'd have pinched Brook just because we needed him!  It is interesting though as a lot of up and coming and fringe players now have an idea of where they stand in the ECB thinking.  Hain will be gutted, as I suspect will Will Rhodes, Jamie Overton, Samit Patel and Keaton Jennings.

Not sure what the eventual side will look like but I expect that Salt will start the series, so its just a question of whether he or Duckett get the gloves (because surely Simpson is there as a pure reserve?)

For me, I think we might see:

Salt
Jacks
Crawley
Malan
Stokes
Lawrence
Duckett (w)
Overton
Gregory/Carse
Mahmood

As a Worcester fan I can't believe Ben Cox hasn't been called up. The next best keeper to Foakes and excellent one day batsman. Hain is very unlucky and I think Tom Abel would have been worth a go. Hales international career is over!

As a Bear myself, I'm surprised Cox has never been given a go. top player!

One thing I have noticed is the stark difference when England picks a squad for limited overs cricket in comparison to test cricket. England is spoilt for choice when it comes to limited overs but there is hardly a fight over who should be picked in the test squad. But then, I guess this is the case with most countries today. Really wonder where Test cricket will be in 10-15 years time.

Spoilt for choice in certain areas anyway. How many proven top quality leg spinners are fighting for Rashid's spot in the white ball side?

With the hundred coming as well as,not instead of,one of the other short forms it's def a worry for those of us that prefer tests to the other formats.

A simple test would be, let's say Joe Root was the last world class batsman at around 25 years old.
Who would be the next potentially at around the same age and English qualified?

New talent is always so exciting! Really looking forward to see how these new faces perform against Pak! With the original squad, I would have predicted an england whitewash, but the turn of events has made things very interesting.

I'd be very surprised if a brand new team would do well under the circumstances.

I suppose if you think about the next 50 over World Cup then it's at least a chance for some new players to be tried out.

Not sure what they will find out about Vince but Malan and Lawrence on the batting front have an opportunity.

From the very little I've seen of Jacks he's explosive but bowlers won't feed him stuff he can put into the leg side.
Let's see thou.

Nearly time for the team! Hardest to predict for a while...

I reckon it'll be (not what I would pick)

Vince
Crawley
Malan
Salt
Stokes
Jacks
Duckett +
Overton
Carse
Mahmood
