Charlie,  stop having a go at Tom and release the bloody joker.

If you'd paid Hayden to use your bats for the IPL, he probably wouldn't even had it in time!

The Joker launch is 100% on schedule.

I wasn't having a go at all, Tom knows that, I just wasn't sure what it was that was different.

Cheers

It's very difficult to launch a radical product and get people using it in large quantities unless you have someone using it on the world stage. The MMi3 is the most radical looking (legal) bat for 100 years, so it's always risky especially in an industry considered by large as pretty conservative. We're giving it a good go though and are on track to meet targets.

Who was the last cricket brand to break through (by that I mean be stocked in all major retailers, decent market share etc) without sponsoring any Internationals?

Like i have said before you not knock these company's for trying different things the truth is only time will tell if they make it many have tried and failed and only a few succeed.

to put black cat cricket in the same market to mongoose is to be honest not a contest but the joker may change this but i doubt it.

i think the room for english batmakers is timed and it is running out but maybe i'am wrong but doubt it

I agree to an extent Pro, SAF won best bat in AOC.  However that exposure still isn't anywhere near as good as seeing KP knock a ton against Aus...  So I agree with Tom, if you've got the £, hit the market hard!

or become extinct simple as that.

it a case of spend to make and either company's aint got it or like moongoose have done gone for it and i take my hat off for this.

it one thing being a big bat maker on this forum but beyond this there small fry and what ayrtek and moongoose have done is a good effort in bringing ideas and backing it up with a bit of clout and taking a risk and not just targeting kids on this forum

I think people either like the bat and therefore back it and hope it does well or the opposite happens - mongoose as a company have certainly divided opinions. (Tick the box for marketting!) :D
Tom, the one question i would ask, is that you compare yourself to Ferrari and Rolls Royce, do you really consider yourself as a crikcet brand to have built up such a reputation already that you can happily compare yourself to the brand leaders??? For me, Ferrari and Rolls Roycs built their name and reputation over many years, whereas mongoose have marketed a product well and invested heavily in this - but does this truly equate to instant recognition as a top end manufactuer/brand leader? As a consumer, i simply do not put mongoose into the same bracket as the more established brands (yet). Therefore, this is the reason why i have questioned the price - it is not malicious and i hope it comes across as constructive rather than cynical - but obviously your perspective of mongoose will be different to mine, to black cats, to watson's etc.

Ferrari sell a premium product aimed at a few individuals, they sell at a premium price. We're selling a premium product here so it makes sense to sell it at a premium price. Do you agree with that? That is where my comparison ends, please don't read so much into things.

Where would you pitch your top of the range bat, hand signed by a superstar and made from a select number of clefts. Considering Kookaburra et al (who we strive to compete with) sell their bog standard top of the range at an RRP in excess of £380.

Well considering i have no superstar, no brand and no bats i wouldnt have a clue :D
I was only trying to gauge your opinion of yourself as a brand - all along i have applauded your methods and the way you have done things as a brand, i think the product itslef (the mmi3 in particular) could do with some refining but this is personal taste.......and who am i to argue with the several thousand happy customers already.
In a sense it is hard to gauge you as a brand - simply because the last brand who approached from this angle was woodworm and they seemed to think they had a revolutionary product at the time but have since fallen into the abyss that is sportshq :(
I wont read into things so much next time - i agree that if you are saying your product is the best, then you expect to get the best prices as well......and if kook, gn, gm, puma etc can all rrp to £400, then your £325 is a fair price. I'm just a poor bugger so the idea of paying anything over £150 scares me :D

These cost more to make than our standard bats. The bats aren't going to sell in volume, we understand that and there's only 40 available.

You obviously disagree. But feel free to go ahead and offer your own range of bats hand-signed by your star player for a bargain price.

from bargain price to premium price, im slightly confused, tom do you mean that at a premium price it is a bargain? long day :(

Sorry, I was suggesting that as Charlie disagreed with our premium price for a premium product idea that perhaps he may be onto something by selling one at a bargain price. Slightly flippant remark...

This is what Mongoose and the forum is about as design brings debate.

I can't understand why there is so much questioning around Mongoose's price point. A consumer can choose to buy based on what they value in a brand. At the end of the day, some would value the innovative shape, the marketing, the labels and the signature. That's the target customer for Mongoose. But others won't and will buy other stuff. Personally I see no value in buying a top end GN but will happily shell out the same money for an established custom bat maker. Sometime ago there was a bat for £400 with no brand no nothing but had the promise of great ping and many grains. Even that found a buyer. Clearly that customer valued something in that bat.
Like Procricket, I think its great that Mongoose have made a bet on their business model and are backing it with the means. I sincerely hope that the market research they did on their target customer segment is spot on and they go on to become an established brand. Either way I am eager to see Matty Hayden using the MMi...
