I'll have to make a proper introduction on this post, so treat this as a placeholder for now! Big shout out though to
@jonny77 ,
@Perkins17 ,
@hell4leather cricket , Rob Pack,
@wilkie113 ,
@procricket @hit4six and a bunch of others for all the help - from showing me how to use the tools, suggesting setup plans and how best to go about it, helping sharpen my tools and prepare partmades, showing me some techniques and also encouraging me to give it a shot. (The list goes on, and certainly doesn't include how to drill a hole straight...)
Finally getting round to updating this post - here is a pic of the setup. (Do excuse how messy it is, and hardly state of the art or organised, but it's functional!)
For the main hand tools, I currently use:
- Narrow Round Bottomed Plane
- Wider Round Bottomed Plane
- Flat Bottomed Smoothing Plane
- Wooden Spokeshave for shaping handles
- Windsor Travisher (Very expensive, but also delightful to use)
- Stubai Drawknife
I also have a drum sander which was indirectly purchased from
@hit4six off the person who bought it off him. I have coupled this with a Record Power extractor with a Dust Hood. I pop this behind the sander while stuck onto my powertool storage boxes. (Agricultural, but works.)
And of course, we can't forget the PPE, so we have a Dust mask, goggles and ear muffs. (Extractors are loud)
My trusty Record 24 vice and also a makeshift rest, which was made from some off cuts that came with the self assemble bench, and also some polystyrene. (Unfortunately, not all of us have furniture makers as friends, who will make us a posh leather one
@jonny77 )
And lastly, my Festool extractor and orbital sander for finishing.
