Eng vs SA test series 2022
« on: August 11, 2022, 07:57:08 AM »

The test match summer is back with the arrival of the Saffas who are about to spend the day chasing leather as Harry Brook and Will Jacks smash them everywhere (please don't jinx this, cough)

I think the test series will be pretty close. The SA team are stronger bowling than us, but our batting is better...

Have the Saffers got a reasonably strong squad? Depth always seems to be an issue for them.

I have been distracted by stocking up on Skips and popcorn. What is this "Test" you speak about?

I never see Ben Duckett get a mention or be considered in anyone's probable list but he does seem to be scoring in all formats. Strange!

Pouring beer on Jimmy Anderson hasn't done Duckett many favours.

Has he been given a crack at any of the Lions games? Saw that Lawrence got runs but haven't followed them that closely. Does seem strange if he's not even in the conversation when he seems so well suited to the philosophy they're trying to instil.

Just spotted that he's got 145 😂 although at 5 which is not really a problem spot right now. Lawrence run a ball 97 at 3 is encouraging though.

Lawrence has been a bit unlucky IMO they stuck with Bell….no Pope  :) and it’s paid off at 3.

Duckett is having a good season runs for him this match plus Lawrence.

But as others have pointed out in here the one to watch is Harry Brook…where he could fit in would be the issue, there may only be Crawleys place available.

I’m a bit loathe to big up Brook but I saw some highlights today and he does have every shot in the book. He certainly has a bright future if he keeps up his form.

I think one of the key ones in that Lions team is Jennings, with ultimately the most likely position available opening and the next tour to Pakistan, he has 2 test hundreds in Asia and runs in Div 1 this season.

Brook is a shoe in for that tour if not before.

Can someone please just put Crawley out of his misery, get him back to county cricket for an extended spell.

Such a shame with Crawley. He looks so good when in flow.

Mark Butcher offered one of the most excoriating summaries ever heard from a Sky commentator -  describing it as a dereliction of the ECB's duty of care to keep picking him,  amongst other things.

As good awful as Zak Crawley is, Ollie Pope ‘Surrey hype merchant’ is arguably worse.
After 50 innings in test cricket, he average a mediocre 30. Still can’t play spin.
But all is well he can brainlessly statpad at the Oval.
