I don’t think they would put expected edge size as that would create an issue in itself

However it was me buying I would be looking for those specs some will of course be smaller as it’s inevitable

I love that chart, gives (roughly) all the information you would need to separate the profile types in a simplified form. Wish other big brands did something similar to this.

Not sure what the issue is then if you'll accept edge size will be inevitably be smaller on some?

The fact we're now measuring everything to within a mm all over the bat brings so many issues and unrealistic expectations. Getting clefts to be full bats with 37mm (and still measure what people believe is needed through the toe, splice, shoulders, handle etc) would result in most being 2lbs 12oz +. If people valued quality of willow, quality of handles etc over 4mm on the edge size, the better bats we'd see.

So it's not guidance as in expected edge size, it's the max edge size. Clears that up then.
It's GM, so it will be the actual edge size - all of their bats of a given shape are near identical and the weight just varies with density.

If only you could spawn that unicorn 2’8/9 gauge filler every single time mate. Must be tougher for batmakers now what with the gauge-everyone wants one with max specs at light weights!

I mean it does say that it's the Max edge and Max spine - if I were to hazard a guess, they'd have a setting to either make the cutting deeper, or move the bed higher to make bats at the same profile, but smaller as you'd be removing more wood. I would be guessing that a 62mm spine and 39mm edge Brava would be the result of the max settings. Have to remember that clefts can come up smaller or even have chunks missing from them at times too, so that's something to factor in, alongside the fact that they do hand finish, so will always be discrepancies.

Max as in peak is how I read it - note they quote volume as a given. GM have also publicly said that's how they do it before iirc.

Ah, that's a good point - I stand corrected in that case. The Hypa I've got here has a 35mm edge and 58mm spine, so some lost from the peaks. The Brava here has 39mm edge and 61mm spine. Thing is, if it would have all been sanded off, 2-3mm is still a fair chunk to sand off the bat overall.

Warning. Possible can of worms here...

Did I miss anyone mentioning that the Brava has a flatter face to make the edges look bigger? What will make the clear the rope more often? A few extra mm or the right profile to suit your style?

Did anyone ever calculate what helps you hit the ball further, weight or volume? If it was pure volume then the scoop bats would have never of worked.

Plus are those extra mm worth it when you realise those squarer edges make it more prone to damage?

For what it's worth, I do like the Hypa as the profile suits my style. If I were to go to shop to pick one out, maybe I'll be swayed by big edges but I hope I'd pick one based on pickup/rebound plus looks, maybe even in that order.

Very interesting but not sure the flat face is such a big thing

A friend of mine moved to the midlands last year , one of the biggest brands there and very established in huge amount of clubs use flat faces

Not sure why but they do . The edges are not huge, I guess large edges and flat faces are prone to more damage but I have a Keeley flat face from a few years ago and it’s totally fine and it’s scored a lot of runs
