Are there any decent Australian players under 30?

Are there any decent Australian players under 30?

Konstas looks promising if a bit raw, McSweeney when he's not batting hopelessly out of position looks pretty handy, Green is quality, Ollie Davies seems to be getting a lot of hype and translating the white ball ability to red ball, Aaron Hardie looks like a pretty decent all-rounder in the making. There's a few 😂

Big issue IMO is that the way they've managed the transition a lot of these guys are going to end up establishing themselves in the Aussie national sides at the same kind of time which is going to be difficult without the benefit of loads of experienced heads around them.

A trophy named after Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar.

Great time to play the Aussies with a lot of them coming to the end.
Bumrah staying fit is the key for India.

If we can get Wood/Jofra over there next year we might have a chance.

I think we have a good chance anyway even without those two express bowlers. There batting currently is flakey and they seem to be having the same issues at the top of the order we had for a while with no real idea of who to partner with Kwaja. Smith and Marnus look well out of form but class is permanent until it’s not ( just look at Kholi although it was a typical Ollie Pope hundred this time in that he hasn’t done it when it matters for a while now) Head still looks formidable and he has caused England damage in the past and 2nd innings batted well here.
Don’t agree with the Aussie comment about Starc being last chance saloon at all but that is an ageing bowling line up and the reserves seldom seem to come close to tying there laces.

If Bumrah stays fit I don’t see Aussies having much chance on current form they look like they will be 20-3 quite often just like England for many years before Stokes and Baz M

Australia only have two tests against Sri Lanka after this series before the start of the Ashes next winter which doesn't leave at of time to bed in new players to what looks a very old side.  Will be a big call whether to give this squad another 14 months of test cricket or risk changing the side with little time to settle.

In home conditions (in Smith’s case all conditions) the batting was largely dependent on Smith, Marnus and Warner. And they did the heavy lifting.

Here some stats to chew on.

Smith in his last 43 innings at home as scored 3 hundreds (more ducks in fact 4) (14.33 per innings). Prior to this sustained period of lack of centuries, Smith had scored 13 hundreds in 50 innings (3.84 per innings.

Marnus in his first 31 innings at home had 9 hundreds (3.44 per innings). He’s now gone 18 innings without a century at home.

Warner in his first 75 innings at home scored 18 hundreds (4.16 per innings). His final 26 innings yielded 2 hundreds.

With such a drop off from the three best players in the side (in Smith’s case, the best player of his generation) is it any surprise how the batting is struggling now?

This likes of Khawaja and Head are fine players, but are not as prolific century scorers usually averaging around 9-10 innings per century, so they can’t fill the void.

As for Marsh, Green and Carey - not even worth mentioning.

That’s the crux of this issue and there’s no one Shield cricket that is going to score Test centuries at an average of 1 every 5-6 innings…

Bancroft, Renshaw and Harris are often citied, they average roughly 10 innings per century at domestic level.

The cupboard is empty…

Let's hope Coles has plenty of jobs available 👀

If it's any consolation, I reckon we're in for a tough time in NZ and would still make you firm favourites for the Ashes as things stand.

Mitchell Marsh is apparently broken again or semi broken and probably won’t bowl in the second Test.

Beau Webster has been added to the squad.

Josh Hazlewood is gone in the side and will not play in Adelaide. Big loss and he helped bowl the Indians out for 36 in the same fixture 4 years ago.

Scott Boland likely to step in. At least he’s Victorian...

Uncapped pair Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett also added to squad.

Nice 107 for Sam Konstas today. That heaps some pressure on the under performing Aussie pensioners.

In the meantime, the new Indian batting line up looks half decent...

Not a great endorsement if Australia's talent pipeline when two uncapped bowlers in their 30s are called up

After Perth, it’s been all Australia. Absolutely annihilated India in the day/night Test in Adelaide. Start took a 6fer with his favourite pink ball. Travis Head continued personal mission against India with another match winning century.

The third Test in Brisbane was heavily effected by rain but Australia again dominated. Steven Smith, finally, registered his 33rd Test century. Travis Head hammered yet another century against the Indians. Bumrah took a 6fer. But India’s batting is pathetic aside from KL Rahul.
Australia’s hopes were crushed after Bumrah and Deep added 40 odd to save the follow on. Australia tried to manufacture a result but rain was the victory.

Josh Hazlewood once again got injured...and will miss the remainder of the series.

R Ashwin announced his retirement with immediate effect. Marvellous career.
