Back pain
« on: May 19, 2008, 08:19:02 PM »

Don't know whether this is in the right section or not, but after bowling about 4 overs I start getting lower back pain.  I bowl medium fast with a side on action, will the pain be caused by my action?  Does anyone know how to stop the pain?

Thanks in advance

mate, you could stretch really well before a game. or go get it checked out. usually side on actions tend to attract injuries. if you have seen a doctor and you can't get it right, you may have to change your action. front on actions are a natural body movement so they tend to cause less injuries

Stretches...
1/ Lie on back in sit up position, then keeping back firmly on the floor and arms out to the sides, roll your hips over so your knees touch the floor on one side, hold for 5 then roll to other side.

2/ Lie on back in sit up position, bring one knee towards your chest and hold it with one hand around the knee cap, bring up other knee and hold, pull towards chest slowly

You might find you actually have a slightly mixed action, e.g the top half is side on, but your bottom half is actually slightly front on - this will result in pain after bowling for a while.  It also can cause some much more serious problems long term.

If you have a cricket center around you, go an see one of the coaches who should be able to tell you if thats the problem.

Do lots of core stability stuff and you may have to look at your action

Back pains not nice like, missed few games start of last season after the painkillers became pointless! Don't play with it is my advice ;)

Go to a good private physiotherapist... See what they think, and do the exercises they tell you
