Net Bats and Match bats
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:47:36 PM »

Talking to a couple of ex-pros, they use exact same bat profile and weight in nets as match, but the net bat is lower grade willow. This is to maintain and improve muscle memory. How many people have a nets bat that fits this model?

I heard that pros net with ridiculously heavy bats so that when they bat with their normal weighted bats their hand speed is much quicker

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

I had a Laver Carbo Firefly (Grade 1) long blade in 2'9/10
And also had exactly the same profile, weight and spec in Grade2/3 (Churchill) for a Net bat.

I sometimes try to match the net bat with match bat.
But most of the time, I actually just practice and test oout some of my bats.
Whereas other times, I try to use a heavier bat in the nets. I think this gets me used to using heavier bats for matches!
I used to use 2'9, but this has gone up to 2'13 as my match bat, and I am now timing and middling the balls better than I used to! So I think there are more than one method of improvement?

I've prefered heavier bats like 2.11+ for some reason, I'll use a 2.8 without a problem but it feels like there is less to it, less bat and it's as if you're not hitting the ball as well.

Most kids my age use light bats because it's easier for them but it's down to preference in the end.

I use my match bat in nets 1. I can't afford two identical bats and 2. I'm used to my own and like it :D

I toyed with the idea of a net bat, but i decided i think i orefer using my own bat and getting used to it. unless some really crap balls are being bowled, then i just grab someone else's :D haha

At the minute I always use a lighter bat in the nets, but that's because we always practice on an artificial wicket that's far quicker and bouncier than the grass tack we play on

I think it's the extra power that's so seductive,
you miss time a ball! :o
think you've been caught?!?!  :(
and to your delight the ball sails over the in field  :D

The heavy bat choice does work really well. My match bat which is 2.13 feels like a matchstick since I made a 3lbs 5oz net bat. http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=4335.msg105477#msg105477

Some of us aren't good enough batsmen to warrant having a special net bat! I sometimes just use my old bat, but that's lighter, so I do what Colesey does and use my match bat. Makes no difference to me, just gets me used to my match bat more!

Think that this winter I'm getting two custom bats and a net bat so I'll use the net bat for training and wet weather :)

Haha long story johan, i'm only messing around with him.

Match/net bats i think ther eis two ways of looking at it. Do you buy 2 identical bats and use one in nets and one in matches, or do you buy one bat and use it in nets and matches so you get completely used to everything about it, it might last half as long but then you have the money to buy another as you didnt buy a net bat...

To be perfectly honest Peps, my bat gets naff all use in the middle anyway! I'm wallowing away down at 8 and 9, so I barely get a chance to do much bar swing the willow at the death! I'd rather use my match bat in nets, unless I'm trying reverse-sweeps and switch-hits through boredom, when I'll use my lighter bat for fun!
