the reason Lancs sign mainly Southern based Batsman is due to the conditions up North

A step back is proberble but when did Lancshire last produce a top top quality batsman we struggle because of the weather and pitches...

Boris is coming to a end possible last season before he calls it a day and fair play since we played together it shows how good you have to be to make it..

Interesting you mention Law i would put him in with Cork old players in the end we did not want or need both quality in there day but both should have been shown the poor earlier


anybody wants to make it Boris was scoring 100,s at the age of 14/15 not bad for a bowler...

Lancs have 3 or 4 players who could break through but i suspect they will sign outsiders again

Sorry Dave but your points about the wickets just don't stand up at all, most if not all pitches are covered and of a very high standard and i never hear any complaints about the old trafford pitch. I live up in the North East and the pitches are just fine especially the higher the standard, obviously perhaps not as hard as down south but the likes of colly from Durham and the many many class players Lancashire have had over the years shows it can be done and easily.

In my opinion the coaching staff is a joke and I'm sorry but i don't rate Peter Moores at all, Watkinson would have been sacked a while back had he not had his feet under the table. Lack of direction and ambition which the members wont accept or put up with for very much longer, looks like they are more interested in the ground rather than the team.

Moore & Horton should be a good enough opening pair for LVCC Div 1, though not sure they've actually opened together yet - get a high profile, and decent overseas batsman in at 3 - A N Other at 4, Crofty and Tom Smith at 5-6, Cross 7, Chappel 8, Saj 9, Kegsy/Keedy 10 plus A N other decent seamer at 11 - sorted!

I think we're only 2-3 decent signings from a championship winning squad!

We are way off that bud and we are short of a decent seamer also, batting is particularly light on quality and hasn't scored enough runs for 3 years bud. We need 3 batsmen and I'm talking quality and a decent seamer and we would then not be far away especially if you sprinkle a little Anderson into the team now and then. Decent overseas is a must however possibly not Lancs fault as KS pulled out late last season.

Rich - I agree that it hasn't scored enough runs, but I think the talent is there. I think potentially one of the reasons the batting hasn't fired is that Peter Moores fannys about too much batting people out of position - Tom Smith as an opener? Sutton opening?

Who do you think we should be looking to sign? Do you know much about players coming through the ranks?

Because in up in the North East i don't know a lot about any emerging players coming through the ranks but surely there must be some ready for the first team but it doesn't look like it. We need a quality overseas and i mean top drawer batsmen like Kumar Sangakkara however international duties makes it difficult. In terms of who we are looking to sign we were looking at Sidebottom but that was a non starter from the beginning as he was always Yorkshire bound, Shah is available as he is leaving Middlesex but that far north possibly not so i ain't got a clue to be fair.

If you ever go on the BBC 606 forums they seem to always talk about a very talented crop of 2nd XI players who people feel aren't given a fair chance by Moores. That's just what I've read other people say though - the only emerging players I really know about are ones I've played with or against - Crofty, Tom Smith and kegsy all seem to have established themselves fairly well.

Other lads I know - James Anyon and Andy Miller got contracts with other counties, but again, seem to be doing alright.

Karl Brown is a name I hear mentioned quite a lot - he's been getting the odd game.

Agree with you though - need a QUALITY overseas, and need one that can play a full season

Not sure who's available on the seam bowling front - do you go for county journeyman or emerging talent? Basically somebody to be Jimmy Anderson when Jimmy Anderson's not there - they'd do worse than to sign Andy Miller back from Warwickshire - What about someone like Kabir Ali?

Rich not to argue with you old chum but the record speak for itself mate as you know i have traveled around a lot and without doubt Southern based batsman have a advantage from a young age and the wickets in Lancashire are not that great.

Look at the last 10 years tell me how many Lancashire or Northern based batsman have made it at Old Trafford and how many Southern Based players have we signed....

Your right most wickets are covered  and after playing in the west of England Prem and the Middlesex Prem not many wickets up North are a patch on them including leagues such as the Bolton League and the Lancashire League..

The truth is it just rains up North more than down South and have covers all you want if you can not get on the thing and roll it suficently covers mean nothing as you do not have the preperation time as the Southern based Clubs do.

A very generic saying i know there good wickets up North but by and large there better down South (in the league mentioned
