Advice required.................................

Alright basically now i've sorted my flights, accommodation and tickets for the melbourne test. I am wondering what is the best way to bring a bat back from Australia......should i find one ;)

I've check my suitcase out and I think it is slightly too cramped to put inside.

I can lend you a flight case which is supposed to carry a flute ? fits a bat in there easily.

If i can find it...

take it hand luggage, but well wrapped up in bubble wrap.

Not sure it will be allowed on as hand luggage these days , you could check it in with the flight stewards and they will store it at the front/back of the plane.

I'll second hand luggage.  Get a padded bat cover for it while you are there....sorted.

Tax and duty on goods brought to the UK from outside the European Union....
"You can bring in other goods worth up to £390 without having to pay tax and/or duty." in case you were wondering about having to pay Duty on the bat when you arrive back in the UK.

You wont have a problem with a bat.  I fly a lot of miles and believe me I've seen some oversized carry-on luggage!  The long-haul airlines are much more reasonable about carry-on.  There is no comparison with short-haul budget airlines and their restrictions for luggage and everything else they can get away with!

A pilot hopefully :D. But yeah, you've got a point - these airlines always publish their luggage policies. For example, I just typed "Pakistan Airlines cricket bat" into Google and hey presto, was directed pretty much straight to the sentence which stated explicitly, that cricket bats are not allowed as carry-on luggage.

I expect that he should be able to find fairly specific instructions as to prohibited items for whichever airline he flies with, if he googles it.

I'm a frequent flyer with Emirates (Gold Card) and you will love it!  Great aircraft, great on-demand videos.....hundreds of movies, tv shows, albums and audio-books to choose from....above average airline food and great service.  Going through Dubai can be an experience, but other than that, sit back, put the headphones on and enjoy the trip......trying not to look at your watch, or the in-flight tracking map!

"Exemptions may be granted for oversized hand baggage containing an item or items which are too large to fit within the permitted bag size and are valuable or fragile. Such oversized baggage shall be presented by the passenger for approval at check-in and at the screening point of examination."

I've seen folks with 6-feet long didgeridoos as hand-luggage coming back from Oz....a cricket bat will easily fit into the overhead locker on the wide-bodied long-haul jets...no worries mate!

If you turn up at the airport with it wrapped in bubble wrap, they'll stick a baggage tag on it and you will be told to stick it through the oddly shaped/oversized luggage route.

That's what happened to all the guys who had handles sticking out of cricket bags when we went to Jamaica, but the airport provided bubble wrap!

I second that. Emirates are a great airline and you can usually catch a bit of cricket on the entertainment system.
