Ponting should swallow his pride and get Hauritz back because Steve Smith is a very average by test standards, Cameron White would be a better pick at least his batting is potentially game changing.

It makes me smile though because Australia now know how it felt for England (particularly Nasser as captain). Interesting Podcast on BBC's website, Aggers interviewed Hayden and Langer.

Would have liked to have seen D Hussey in instead of Steve Smith, scoring runs at the moment too. Not all too surprised for the chance of Johnson coming back in. Think Beer is a strange pick too, named as a player who does well on his home ground - has played 3 fc games on it only and taken 16 wickets at 39. Not that impressive imo. Wouldnt have dropped North, think thats a very harsh decision, just done as he was the easiest drop in the squad and it is expected to send out a message, when in fact it's just making it worse.

Yes! I forgot about him, now there is a player who deserves a pick. The changes will either go well or very badly. Bollinger in then Bollinger out? I know his speed was down but Siddle looked less potent in my opinion.

Steven Smith is a joke. He is an embarrassment to all leg-spinners and shouldn't be in any first class squad in the world, instead I could play against him in our league and he wouldn't get 50+ wickets.

He'd better do really badly at Perth or you'll regret that!

Ian Bell will rip him to pieces, if he gets to bat.

Despite the fact he's pup, he has managed match figures of 8 for 169 in his recent state match. Probably get a recall

I agree with Joe on that one, maybe not to the extent that he is going on about, but his leg spin really does need a lot of work. I think he's in for his batting, I don't know why, cause if he goes cheaply Australia's batting line up looks even shorter. Why they didn't move Mike Hussey up to open and put Khawaja or preferably David Hussey in I will never know...

Steve Smith will play and bat at 7, haddin will go in at 6 and then the Aussie will pick the 4 other quicks. They need to get wickets, so they will go with the extra bowler. Haddin is a class player, Smith will get more runs than North, so the batting isn't weakened and they have the extra bowler. Having said that if Monty, Ian Blackwell, Adil Rashid and a few other were Australian they would all get picked first...!

I actually think he is a pretty talented player. If he didn't bat well he wouldn't be considered - but he can so he gets a go. A bit like Rashid - good fielder, decent bat and learning his trade as a bowler. It says a lot for our depth of talent that someone like Rashid isn't even on the tour

Beer is a rank Journeyman pro (in my view) and will be 12thers.

I suppose his batting is significantly better than North's at the moment, quite unorthodox, but a pretty good player from what I've seen...but has he been worked out is the question...

Fox Sports 3's Inside Cricket, transcript…

Brendan Julian "So where do we go from here boys, Junior what do you

reckon?"

Mark Waugh "Mate if I was a selector there are at least five, maybe six,

of those blokes who'd be looking for something to do next week, because

they wouldn't be playing cricket in Perth."

Damien Fleming "Such as?"

Waugh "Mate, Doherty for a start. I mean jeez, we've picked a bloke

because we don't know who our spinner should be. Should we seriously

pick a guy who has played 10 state level tests in his life to go up

against Pietersen, Cooke and those guys?"

Julian "Bit harsh"

Waugh "Bit harsh? He was chucking that many pies at Pietersen he may as

well have opened a bakery on days 2 and 3."

Fleming "North?"

Waugh "Gone"

Julian "Bollinger? Siddle?"

Waugh "Gone"

Gladstone Small " Can I interrupt for a minute?"

Waugh "No"

Julian "Junior is on a bit of a roll here Stone"

Waugh "No I mean fair go, we've got it wrong here. If I'm the only bloke

not happy that we've been rolled for an innings and 70 odd runs on a

runway of a pitch and that lets be honest we're going to have a summer

of the poms handing us our ars&s in this series then fair go boys,

something's wrong here. What's Clarke doing after getting out? He's on

twitter saying sorry for not walking? Mate if he did that in our side

there'd be hell to play. AB would chuck his twitter box off the balcony

or whatever it is. Sorry for not walking? jesus christ man
