To be the devil's advocate for one moment - Albion have years of experience and their helmets have been used consistently at the top level, while Tom's gear is relatively new - with respect, if anyone is suspect it's Ayrtek...

Rome wasn't built in a day...we have only been around 3 years comparred to Albion who have been around since 1980 in the helmet market......yet within 2 years of us designing and releasing our helmet Albion are now starting to copy our sales lines and materials that we use ??? F1 technology/carbon fibre materials!!! if we are that suspect why is this ???

P.S perhaps you would like to compare the Keith Barker incident in our helmet with your namesake Ricky Ponting's or Daniel Flynn's in their Albion's ???

Just because ours cost more doesn't automatically make it safer ;) it's more the materials and technology we use that makes it safer but these come at a cost!

Completely agree Tom, that was the point i was trying to make. The research and materials that are used are going to be more expensive than the £30 albion helmets. Uness they are making them at serious volume and have one hell of a buying department for their materials!

I think the claim is very bold, but, as you say a claim needs to be invalidated before you can prove it wrong.

Ok guys I am 36, played cricket since I could walk and played rugby for 22 years!!! very much from the old school and brought up the same way (dad didnt talk to me for a week when at 14 i asked for a thigh pad!!!) but after breaking my nose 4 times and shattering my cheek bone and eye socket I decided a couple of years ago to wear a lid!!! a couple of my injuries came from sweeping and pulling the ball (top edges) as a result I became hesitant when playing these shots and my game suffered! being a left hander we all know that legside shots are the bul of our run scoring, If you take the sweep and pull out of the amoury it is significant enough to impact on 1:enjoyment of batting and 2:runs potential! Now that I wear a lid i have the confidence again to play freely and will happily get down on one knee and smash it over deep midwicket!!! So if I am going to buy a lid I want it to be as safe as possible, Albion are making some big noise about their lid being the safest but how can plastic with carbon fibre be safer than entirely carbon fibre????? and as Tom points out how can a peak set at 90 degrees hold upto a straight on impact against an Ayrtek which is designed to disperse impact energy arournd the lid???? thats where the engineering in an Ayrtek beats all others!!!!

No look if I'm honest I personally would rather one of yours than Albions if I was buying purely on safety, but my point was that Albion have built up credit (rightly or wrongly) over the years that their helmets have been used at the top level.

I should point out that to pick the Ponting and Flynn incidents isn't really fair because for those incidents there are also many times when the helmets have stood upto the ball and the batsman has been fine. Albion's ahve been used at the top level for so long that those incidents form only a tiny % of the times that batsmen have been hit...we can only judge after Ayrtek's have been used in test cricket for 10 years and we can then prove they are safer. At the moment we can only say that in 1 out of 1 incidents the Ayrtek was safe, in 2/10000 incidents the Albion failed.

Anyway the long and short of it is that I'm with Ayrtek, Tom they're clearly much safer, but my only point was that Albion have built up some kind of credit over the years. What I want is the cost of a top line helmet to be reduced...I can't fork out as much as your carbon fibre jobs cost! For the majority of people any lid will be safe, its only when facing 85 plus that you want 'the safest' lid...I'd love one but cost and looks are the issue.

It is not the world's safest helmet for adults, on the Albion website it says it is the world safest helmet for JUNIOUR cricketers and in the GCCC catalogue it says "this helmet has been specifically designed for juniours." So it is a juniour helmet so adults dont wear them.

here is the link to it on their website: http://www.albionsports.com.au/premiere_prodpage.html

This is not a Junior helmet and therefore will be worn by ADULTS.
Albion quote that all their helmets are the Safest and lightest cricket helmet available regardless of it being for a Junior or an Adult.

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

Yeah thats true Roco. Some companies try anything to get a bit more brass in their back pocket.
Would like to see Albion try and justify their statements.

Yeah this is true that they often claim they have the lightest and safest helemt, but with the this one  http://www.albionsports.com.au/premiere_prodpage.html
they claim it is the safest juniour helmet. On cricket supplies, they dont say safest juniour helmet, they simply say safest helmet in the world but if you cahnge that to safest juniour helmet in the world, it makes alot more sense in terms of price and materials used, so really the fault is with cricket supplies there. The ultimate 98 doesnt mention anywhere that it is designed for juniours plus the fact that Watson, Ponting, Hussey wear them, so obviously that helmet is for adults and teenagers.
