The Greatest ? Sachin Tendulkar
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:21:19 PM »

Sachin seals his place in history by being the first man to  50 Test hundreds.
What a performer, a true gentleman and a genuine role model.
Next challenge would be 100 hundreds combined with his ODI record.

Kallis and Ponting are unfortunate to have played at the same time as Sachin as they are all legends in their own right.

Nah he's overrated ;)

I have a feeling no-one is ever going to get anywhere near his amount of test runs

Hopefully he'll play in England next year as I'm going to the Edgebaston test :)

And he's still using that bloody bat! Steyn bowled 2 bouncers at him and gave him some lip. I'm wondering what you can say to a man who is 100no and in the middle of his 50th test ton?! I'd just turn and go back to my mark I think!

Definitely the best of his generation, but I don't think you can say he is the greatest of all time.

he is the best since the Don - but the Don was batter - his conversion rate was better and the pitches he played on were uncovered and much worse.

having said that no-one plays with the pressure of Tendulkar - I am really hoping to see him bat this summer, he will get an amazing reception in England

not sure we will ever see anyone like him. battered every attack in every country in all forms of the game. never saw bradman but he must have been some bloody player to be better than Tendulkar.

Bradman, Sobers, both better methinks. Sobers probably the best cricketer ever, just for his all-round abilities.

This is a totally useless debate consisering it would mean little to Sachin whether he is the greatest ever, or greatest in toady's era......

..... the guy jsut loves and respects his game and that's kept his going.

(Just a thought though. Would Bradman or sobers or RP, Kallis etc. survive and repeatedly make their critics eat their words for 20 years??)

its hard to compare players from different era's as the flip side is how would schin have faired with no helmet on uncovered pitches against some of the old fast bowlers  you can only really say he is the greatest batsman of the modern era
