Millichamp and Hall Amplus
« on: January 03, 2011, 01:58:14 PM »

Seems there has been a lot of talk about this bat recently. For anyone in the know really but apart from shape, what is the main difference between the distinction and the amplus? Both say they're made from oversized clefts and grade 1 willow so what justifies the £50 extra price tag...
I suppose we will have to wait until someone on here gets one like the Hosk!

Also interested to know what this pro handle is that they talk about. The handle does look different to the distinction with maybe a counterbalance on the top.

Interested to know what peoples opinions are on their bats as they seem very expensive to me and I wouldnt personally spend that amount on a bat when there are similar options for less...

The handle does have a counterbalance in place......

im not sure what makes it £50 more expensive than the distinction as that too is made using oversized clefts.....

looks a bloody nice bat tho and would love to have a feel of one

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

It feels very nice. The one I handled at the Lords show was around 2'10 from memory - maybe more. But the counterbalance made it feel lighter and better balanced!
Was a meatier profile that the Distinction! Bigger edges and felt like it would go like a train!
Knew I should have taken more pics!!

The middle is nearly in the handle... no wonder if feels light! ;)

Agreed leo, doesn't look like a shape many of us could use?  Middle looks far too high..

Call me cynical, but it is being touted as a bat that pros use and the next big thing. For £350 I would want to be hand selecting the cleft.

Remember folks that this magic low density willow stands to have a shorter life than the standard.

Exactly, more of a posing bat than a bat you could actually use!

The one at the Lords show had a middle possibly not so high - or at least it didn't seem mega high!
And the RRP is £400+ so is it worth it? Personally I wouldn't as there are some amazing bats out there for less than £300!!
But each to their own!!

Well - I did buy one bat for £400 but it was an absolute 1off!!

Will need to include pics of that baby in my bat inventory!

What is an oversized cleft? :-[   and surely they are for man beasts and can't be made into short handles?!!

i think it means width ways oversized not legnth, so you can get a bigger profile than standard ones that dont allow of massive edges and massive spines!
