it kind of shows what we think of Odi stuff here on this forum - the 4th game was the one we won and still there are no comments... the ashes mind - people were up all night watching it !

Without ODIs there would be less International exposure for up coming players. Guys like Morgan, Collingwood, Swann etc gained confidence from ODIs which brings added mental strength for Test cricket. ODIs give batsmen the chance to build an innings, which is vital if you're looking to play Test cricket.

T20s are just mindless slogging contests. Guys like Pollard, Warner look 'world class', yet are pretty crap in longer forms of cricket.

Like Jeet says, T20 was to bring in fans from other sports and make cricket more accessible.

I for one managed to convert a few mates by taking them up to Old Trafford after work for a few beers tto watch a Lancs game where I described it as "basically we get smashed in the sun whilst watching them smack it about for a couple of hours"

These lads now play cricket and text me at 4am asking if I have seen Swanny's latest video diary.

But ODI's are a good stepping stone for the big time, so to speak

Tim - I do agree with you - but you don't ger a full house for a county ground and the pressure to perform in front of a large crowd does test people's nerve.

But even in state/county cricket when do you ever see an attack featuring its International bowlers? Rarely ever. Playing domestic cricket is good, but facing guys like Lee, Tait, Akhtar, Gul etc is a different level altogether. In domestic cricket you could see of the speedster, in International cricket there would be no hiding place.

Very true as well Buzz, it's much tougher going out to bat in say Australia, India, SA etc where the crowd is baying for blood. Performing in those conditions shows a batsman's mental strength.

I agree with Rocco, 5 ODI's would be plenty.  Watson and Clarke arent even playing in ODI7 on Sunday.

Still means alot to us aussies who have to bear the shame of being beaten by the pomms in are own beer garden

The reason is MONEY, plain and simple, no other cricket contest in australia draws the crowds like Aus V england in any format, so the head honcho's are sucking every cent they can out of it. And thats why the shorter formats were created as well, to get people to the ground to watch cricket and spend they're money so so
