I would chose Tres' GM over all those other bats, having had a swing with one of his Catalyst a few years ago I can safely say that the pick up to actual weight ration is amazing! And the way his check drives rocket into the boundary boards, they must be some awesome will.

Tom, does MT still have the same bottom hand set up on his Mongoose bats, I would imagine so on the cor3, but what about the MMi3?

Awesome:

I don't think Tres's bats pick up amazingly or that they're ever so special. I suppose the shape is almost a little dated now and I'm giving him all different types of shapes now to try them out. We obviously want to keep him as close to a stock shape as possible.

His bottom hand setup is the same on both CoR3 and MMi3

His handle setup isn't that strange, his first favourite bat he had made by Julian Millichamp which had a very thick oval handle and since them he's always gone for it.

The MMi3 he has just has a thicker more oval handle all the way down. He then fiddles with them after a little.

He does know his bats (used to work for Classic Bat co.), asks very good questions about benefits of certain aspects of willow/handles and knows what he wants.

I expect you will have a few of his bats at the Taunton open day?

that Gilly's one is massive for a 2.8......

just goes to show you dont need a heavy bat eh

Not suprising given Gilly's very high grip and backlift, all set up for batspeed (in addition to his great timing) rather than a punch style.

I was at Meulemans in Perth once when Gilly was collecting a batch of bats. Very casual about it. He'd pick up a bat, give it a few taps on the ground, couple of 'air shots' and pronounced it as 'good'  'balance not to his liking' 'weight not right' etc. Took him about 2 minutes to select 6 bats! He wasn't concerned with grain etc.

I suspect that these bats ability to score boundaries is much more closely related to their users than the Willow....
