Your best England XI from the last 10 years
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:15:42 AM »

I am bored stiff at work. Thought this might entertain me for a while!

1. Trescothick
2. Strauss
3. Vaughan
4. Thorpe
5. KP
6. Freddie
7. Stewart
8. Hoggard/Jones
9. Swanny
10. Anderson
11. Harmison

Actually quite a tough one to call when you think about it. Not given a massive amount of thought to this, just wondered what everyone else thinks!

Yeah I did forget about Gough until after I had posted

Would have Tresco over Atherton any day, not only becasue I can't stand Athers commentating and writing, but because Tres needs to be given credit. One of the most gifted batsmen we have seen, whilst incorporating the most awful footwork, or lack of...

I think you could argue a fairly strong case for Trott at number 3.

I think we would have to see how he fairs against India and the Saffers first. Don't get me wrong, massive fan of Trott and currently my favourite England player, but he failed in SA and although he has had a quality Ashes, and a good start to his test career (shame it's late on) he needs to come on against these 2 teams, if you see what I mean

I don't think I would pick Harmison as he has frustrated more than he has performed... unless he is playing for Durham.

My team would be:

Strauss
Trescothic
Vaughan
Pieterson
Thorpe
Flintoff
Prior
Swann
Jones
Anderson/gough? I am going for Anderson
Caddick (I wanted an old school tall bowler!)

Would people really want Flintoff at 6 and Stewart or Prior at 7?

I think just having Freddie on the field made a massive difference. I admit he did underachieve and should have been so much better, but when he was on form, there was nobody that could touch him

Think it's hard to argue with having him in the side, but I'd probably have him at 7 rather than 6. Also don't think I'd have Alex Stewart of 2000-2003 in my side, certainly not as keeper, Priors record will be much better I'd imagine.

Having not given it much thought I'd have

Trescothick
Strauss
Vaughan
Thorpe
Pieterson
Prior
Flintoff
Jones
Swann
Anderson
Hoggard

I don't think England have had 4 'great' fast bowlers over the last 10 years. Caddick certainly wasn't a great.

Foster is a great shout, best keeper this country has had since Jack Russell, and given that Swanny bat's as well, we wouldn't loose out too much.
